black paint w/ gloss finish come out on car as chrome

I just noticed this today, if I apply black paint with the glossy finish to my car it comes out with a mirrored silver chrome finish. Don't know if this is a bug, or if it's something they changed to create the finish for the "chrome" cars that you get from the car jacking missions. Is this paint color/finish combo coming out this way for anyone else?

Well it seems that during the night, it looks like a normal black gloss finish, only in the daytime it looks like it's mirrored/chrome.

When you throw matte paint onto a car in the daylight setting, it comes out looking glossy. I'll grab a picture and throw it into this post later.

This and the thread where a user was showing us how unnecessarily shiny all his cars looked makes me think that the lighting engine and settings are tuned for night time, and were not dealing well with day.
Haha, that was me. I flipped out in one of the mod release posts, thinking the mod messed up all my cars because it was (I thought) the only thing that had changed. What actually happened was that the light settings had changed because I had just beaten the game.

It seems the only thing you can do, at least for now, is redo all of your vehicles with matte paint, or keep the simulation set to nighttime.

The effect is amplified exponentially on the Chrome vehicles. The Chrome Lockdown looks like a 4-sided mirror on wheels.

OK so it's not just me than. Alright. I guess I'll deal with having a super mirror car in the daytime because matte paint looks awful, you can't see any of the detail/depth in the car's lines. IIRC, the "candy" version of the black paint had slightly less reflectiveness to it.

I just spoke with the vehicle artist that did this finish. He says that the hero gloss is really glossy by design and it looks great with most finishes. He does agree that on black during the day it seems overpowered though. He says this is also the setting used on Pleasantville cars, so there's some trivia for you. :) It is possible this was balanced at night since early gameplay is mostly at night.

What Knobby said.

As JoeyBeanz notes, Candy (which is just fancy metallic in SR4), should work far better in the daytime than gloss if your black is too shiny. Post campaign daytime was actually a fairly late edition, and occurred after I had done the paints and moved on to other things, so they were never balanced for use in that situation.

Oh hai, James! I forgot you were part of the cool mod crew. :)

I noticed this recently as well, fiddling with car customization. It's not just black, any darker color gives a wild reflective look during daytime. It's really intense in the Rim Jobs/garage menu, oddly enough that seems to actually be toned down in the streets. It goes back to looking good in the customizer if you change it back to nighttime.
