mod installation

I downloaded a bunch of workshop mods while using the pre-workshop build. However, I managed to grab the files of these mods and put them in a "mods" folder in the game's folder, but they don't work. Did I do something wrong? Is there something I have to do to enable these mods? Someone please...

i installed the mod but when I run saints row 4 and use the mech the camera goes way up and all I see is the regular mech at a small size and not Zinyak's large mech Is there a fix for this? The only other mod I have installed and it's work correctly is the additional cheats mod

I've installed the flying mod and Sandbox mods as directed in the readme's but the game doesn't appear to register their activation at all, especially odd as one of them required me to replace one of the game files in the cache...could this have anything to do with the recent steam workshop...
