Changing taunt/compliment animations



With the help of shitface, there has been random testing to see what is and isn't client sided. Apparently animation calls are not client sided and anyone can see them. This will explain how to do extra taunts.

First thing you need to do is unpack the misc_tables.vvp file. Copy the customizable_action.xtbl file to your saints row root folder and open it. Do a basic search for a taunt you already have equiped, by basic i mean only one word of it. In this example i will use the Nature Boy taunt.

The option we are going to change is the in the <Action> tag. To get a list of available actions you can open up the plym.xtbl, plyf.xtbl, and life_default.xtbl files.

In this tut we will replace it with "Piss in Public"

Save your changes and load up the game. Try out your taunt and you should be pissin like no tomorrow.
It should be noted that you still play whatever sound file is used by your taunt so have fun mixing and matching. Personally i like my guy saying "Wooo" and then puking.

(EDIT) i came back and looked at my long post & figured i'd just ask a simple question at the the top so no one has to read all that crap if they dont want. - u mentioned a couple of xtbl's with misc animations, which one would i want for character animations that are used in cutscenes? READ THE REST IF UR BORED & WILLING TO HELP... otherwise, i'll keep it simple and just leave it at that.

hi, im totally anoob when it comes to modifying anything, last wk idol pointed me in the right direction for something i really needed and am eternally grateful, and check everyday to see if his new one is up.... so anyway, since modifying a line to do something, unrelated to this, (and the first time i've even modified anyting, and surely it doesnt qualify as a mod, but nonetheless, it solved my problem thx to idol :) however, i mention this to say that while im still somewhat clueless there are few things i've been toying with since then, and this is one of them.... i have like 75 taunts and compliments in image as designed on top of the 36 added ones, and i've been doing as this guide suggested and checked those 2 xtbl's as well as a few others to see what would work. (anytime i pick one like smoking, while in image as designed it gives me all the props to everything i scroll over, but iselect want i want, save my game, reload, and then just have my guy until he wants to pull out a cigarette when i hit compliment is what happens.... also it seems u can drop ur props by falling far enough flipping into the water sometimes, etc, but whatever, thats all fine and good.)

im posting here since you guys are the knowledgeable ones, & im equally as clueless here to what im trying to do now as i was a few wks ago to what i was trying to do then.... maybe the answer is something u guys automatically just "know" and thats what im hoping.... its 2 questions.... one is kinda more important than the other to me.... as i said before, some of the fun i've been having lately was enjoying the cinema editor despite its flaws, etc, and was making a lil cartoon for my buddy in hospital, just a stupid little project, but for some reason im really working hard on it. i say THAT so its clear why i might be basking something nobody else thought about or cared about. and thats this :

1. the fact that u can scroll over so many animations in image as designed, & they're as good as loaded already, is there any way that i can leave and have mapped more than just 1 for compliment and 1 for taunt? like lets say im in my mini-wannabe-spielberg mode, i want my guy to sit at the stripclub while i shoot some camerawork of him, then be startled to stand, then do quicklook b. i can use all these, but icant do it in one scene so its completely useless, cuz i've spent all last nite running back to image as designed to get the next piece of animation, only to struggle at lining the camera up exactly as i had it before (which even though i have a reference picture from clip editor right next to me, i wish there were just some values i could say once in awhile for static camera to go "here" and then proceed normally. (in clip editor i mean). but thats not my problem, i dont wanna come in here asking 10 questions at once, lol, so ANYWAYS, yeah, is there any way to be able to access a little "bank" of animations? like maybe mapped to an unused button or keyboard buttons, or have the compliments cycle thru, or just anything AT ALL to have omore than only 2 while in the world? thats my question # 1. its a big question, but what im crossing my fingers for is this next one....

2. there are animations in the game that happen in cutscenes (usually pierce) that are just little motions with expressions and stuff, & all i want to do, is, for example, use pierces animation from a cutscene. thats all. howver i cant find anything relating to stuff i've seen in cutscenes at all in the life default section or plym section.... like i dont care if it partly works, it would just be great. for example, when playing back the comic shop cutscene slow with the sound off, there's one shot that looks like MC and viola are questioning pierce about some kind of crime and pierce looks all defensive.... its totally not there in the context of the game, and i think its so cool how things can look however u perceive them sometimes, so i just wanted that little animation on a main character, have him stand somewhere, lips moving, talking, it could even be pierce's voice, it'll be muted, and put in an audio sample of the celebrity lookalike he is, that i have from a movie of him denying a crime. i dont care that the lips wont match the words or anything. but i used that full drawn out example to better illustrate all it was i was looking for. over on the community site a while ago people were posting some little homemade creations, and i know one ofr the videos had an animation from a cutscene cuz v-sing (i think it was him-volition support guy) laughed and said how funny it looked so funny when their character did it instead. so i know its gotta be possible, i just dont know where cutscene stuff goes & if they work just like the above examples, which is where i used the formula to create an extended list of customizable_action.xtbl.... or whatever.... sorry for the super long post, but i have down time at work right now, & so i figured i should ask and be as thorough as i think of to help explain, and maybe someone will know right off the top of their head either what i could try, or a direction i could start in, etc.... that example of pierce was longer than most im thinking of, mainly theres just some things in cutscene animations that include a couple things where they turn their head and smile, for example. even that would be great.

so theres my question, sorry bout the wall of text, im sitting at tech support desk with no calls coming in. lol (not tech like pc's) but anyway, looking so forward to nes GOS, also enjoying the person who submittedd something for alternate times of day that i take in and take out, its a default_district.xtbl, and loads up the colors and lighting that the sky and stuff has from beligian problem for morning, and i think close to return to steelport's awesome purple sky in the night-time, just little visual tweaks like that do go appreciated to whoever created them, so even if u think any work is unnnoticed or unappreciated, thats never the case. there's always someone like me appreciating them. they just might be lazy and not say so. just wanted eveyone to know that.

You should probably put this in the help part of the forum.

And with your first question (the 'bank' of animations) I believe that could be done with something similar to Sandbox+ just instead of having the commands mapped to teleports or something you can mod it so it is mapped to compliments and insults. I don't really know how to do this, but I think it is with a modification of sr3_city.lua or maybe a modification of control_binding_sets.xtbl (KBaM) and control_schemes.xtbl (controllers) to add in extra entries for custom compliment and taunt animations.

Unfortunately I can't help with your second question as I don't know where the cutscene data is kept.
