Just a quick note that I was able to create a day/night cycle that dynamically changes based on in-game time. It's actually tied in to another project that turk and I are working on. Just wanted to share the good news. :D

*Book of Genesis the Third: reinstate the day cycle!*

You, sir, are awesome. I've got million thoughts running through my mind now but really, that's some terrific news. Very, very impressive.

Bottom line: I've got the strange impression that I'll be checking this thread every 30 minutes to see if its ready ;)

This other project (some changed lighting schedules mod? A dynamic time of day progression mod? please tell me you put in actual advancing time complete with traffic scheduling changes and so on!) WILL be in Gentlemen of Steelport, right? It will, right? So we can toss it on using the cool new gui installer being also made then throw the new pack at SR3 and laugh as we get all the stuff that works but they disabled because the poor little consoles couldn't handle it so the game was dumbed down? :D

You're getting ahead of the game. Right now it simply tracks the game-time clock and changes over to the correct time of day at the correct time. It's unlikely that we'll get the lighting to smoothly change over the course of the day due to hardcoded limits of table entries, but I'm hoping to at least create smooth transitions between the 4 major states. i.e. You'll be seeing static sun and shadows for most of the time within that state and a smooth transition at the very end into the next one (hopefully.)

Does this also effect weather patterns?

I confirmed that weather still randomly occurs the same as it does in vanilla.

this is the best news. One of the biggest losses (IMO) from SR2 was the day/night cycle. Now with this and the Pedestrian AI mod, Steelport will feel just a little more alive!

One interesting thing is that having a correctly changing cycle seems to have corrected all the underglow issues with vehicles. I think that in vanilla, the underglow was turning off when the gametime itself was daylight hours, even though it was visually a non-changing night.
