I have seen several mods for SRTT that hint at the potential of an incredible DayZ-like mod.
For those that do not know, DayZ is a realistic zombie survival game that is itself a mod of Arma 2. You must eat, drink, scavenge for resources, cope with some weather, deal with other players, and, of course, deal with streets full of zombies. When you die, that's it. It is hardcore but pulse pounding. In just 3 months, they have gone from 600 players to 1 million.
Why a DayZ-like mod for SRTT? Because SRTT has a superior feel to driving, piloting, and shooting (the three aspects of DayZ) compared to Arma2, the game that DayZ is a mod of. SRTT is simply smoother and has better controls. More than that, SRTT has one of the best co-op feels for an action game. Arma2, on the other hand, feels very sluggish and rigid. Add to that the awesome array of vehicles and SRTT seems perfect for a zombie survival realism mod. Finally, there are no bases in DayZ, a major limitation. Having a base to hold-up in would add an additional tier to this kind of game.
As there are already zombie models around, the realism mod (the one by xQd), and a day/night cycle, it seems some of the components are already done. No doubt there is much to be done, but the mod may not have to start from scratch.
