Does 'The Boss' have respect?

It just does not seem like it. Loyalty, yeah, no question. But respect? I'd have to say NO. Pierce sends them out to do all the side quests even though Kinzie asked him to do them. Shaundi talks more of Johnny...The Christmas DLC eludes to it, plus when Johnny is crashing in the helicopter. There are other instances in SR:TT and now SR IV where it just does not seem like The Boss has received ANY respect from their 'friends'.

Thoughts?

Yes, that's true as well. Everyone that mentions Johnny Gat say how much of a 'bad mutha' he is. And he is. But you're not answering the question....Does the Boss have respect?

And why is that? Poor writing? Or is there supposed to be some implied reasoning on this now 'flawed' Boss? So they've gone from 'former insane glory'...to being ridiculed and disrespected by the very teammates that the Boss tells Asha, they'd take a bullet for. So the Boss seems to have this unwavering sense of respect and loyalty for the Saints...but it certainly seems to be a one way feeling. Again, I'm not questioning the Saints loyalty or friendship to the Boss, just the lack of respect they seem to have for him/her.
I've never played SR 1 or SR 2. I have SR 2, but I just can't seem to play it on my PC. The controls are just way to squirrely. So I'm really just kind of starting this discussion because I don't know all of the back story. I mean, did something occur that caused a loss of that respect? Did the Boss even ever have it?

Volition/THQ probably figured that a "puckish rogue" is much more marketable, less controversial and easier for the audience to relate to than the outright evil psychopath boss from SR & SR2.

I hated the psycho boss. Probably because, like a normal person, I dont like psychopaths. I don't enjoy watching my character act like an evil crazy bitch. Whenever she (he if you made your boss a man) went psycho - I kinda wanted someone to put a bullet through her head, lol.

I like how Volition decided to lean toward comedy. I just don't have fun watching a psychopathic bitch hurting people.

As for respect? I do wish the saints would give the boss more, but the modern day boss's ridiculousness makes it hard for them, I guess. Personally I don't think the boss gets enough credit for the things he/she does.

Oh, and BTW, in The Third, when selecting voices I remember hearing the boss talk about their therapist. If the boss went through therapy, it would explain the modern day boss's wackiness - maybe acting the way he/she does now helps her/him be less psychopathic? It would explain a lot, I guess.

Well i'm not normal then... Hell, i was shocked, awed and laughing at what my character did in SR2... BUT i'm perfectly and completely fine with my character's personality in S3 and S4. But he does need a bit more respect from his comrades.

Okay, I think it's time to eat my own words (nom nom!). Now that I think about it in detail, I didn't actually mind most of the things the Boss did in SR2. I mean, he/she was just blown up and put in a coma by their own leader, and now everything the boss had done to secure the Saints's status in Stilwater is thrown in the dump. Girl/Guy's gonna be pretty pissed after that!

I'm mainly concerned about Jessica's death (though that bitch totally deserved it. Poor Carlos, RIP). It seems Carlos's death fueled the Boss's inner rage and thirst for revenge, and so the boss went full on Psycho, and I'm okay with that. It was just a little creepy to watch, that's all. But I am glad that the boss calmed down a bit (well, a lot) in between SR2 and SR:TT.

Sure Johnny is scary, but he lacks of the ability to rule a gang. The Boss has this ability because he is far more 'creative' than Johnny and very able to organize plains. Also he is very loyal and trustworthy, and his friends know that he will never betray them. They don't respect him as authoryty, because they see him more like a friend, or a brother. Before I though the Boss was lonely. He has been lonely, but slowly now he seems more appreciate, not as leader but as person.

I just think that after a while, a very evil character become boring to the audience. Also all characters grow and evolve. Is natural.

Is funny how in Sr2 there are some suicidal pedestrian. I drive carefully and those jerk jump in front of my car. But I learned to avoid them anyway
