Gentlemen of the Row fixes with only vanilla game content?

Hi, I just started the game but quickly stopped because even though I did the minimum install of the mod, it obviously still changes a lot of things, like the eye colour changes and extra cribs and stuff. I'd really like to play the game in its original form while incorporating only the fixes from the mod (and controller button prompts). Is there any relatively straightforward way of doing this?

And unrelated but with IdolNinja working for Volition, is there any chance of seeing the DLC for the PC version?

That's a shame, though understandable. Followup questions: since the button prompts are an optional module, is it possible to install just that alone, or does it require the base mod? Secondly, how difficult a time will I have poking around in the source files, and how likely am I to break things if I do? For example, if I extract the original crib files from the vanilla game and replace the modded ones (cribs.xtbl, cribs_sr2_city.cts) in the mod folder, then reinstall the mod as normal, is that likely to work? And the same question for other things I find myself wanting to revert. (I have no experience with modding, but I'm technically literate... enough. Hopefully.)

It will be incredibly difficult, and it's absolutely not going to be just the files you think. Multiple seemingly unrelated files would need to be edited. It's stuff that you probably wouldn't even think to look at. One small incorrect change or dependency will will either crash the game or cause weird behavior in other parts. SR2 is incredibly sensitive to everything. For example, Certain light cone triggers for cribs cause certain levels of Septic Avenger to break during the routes. So, you can make a change and think it may be working but then it completely breaks another part of the game that you won't realize until 10 hours of playtime later. At that point, if you remove your changes you break your save completely and it won't even load.

SR2 PC modding is beyond ugly.

EDIT:
Here's a standalone version of the 360 prompts mod:

Damn. Disappointing, but also amusing in a twisted sort of way. Thanks for your help, and for all the no doubt painful modding work.

One more question, sorry. The two modified preload files from GotR, can I copy those to my game folder separately too? Am I right in thinking that they just tell the game which assets to load into memory immediately as opposed to on the fly, and thus improve performance when driving around at high speed?

Not really. If the model or animation isn't preloaded, then it won't show/work in the open world. There are certain models/anims for missions that are only specifically for that mission. Those wouldn't need to be preloaded since it would be manually loaded from the mission's cts. So, if you don't replace the preload files then half your weapons will be invisible, taunts won't work and be a T-Pose, etc.

Oh right. So in the context of playing the game vanilla, you've left me confused. To replace or not to replace, that is the question.

If you want to play the game vanilla, do not use Gentlemen of the Row. Simple as that.
