Having problems trying to install mods

So, I've downloaded a few mods, copied to files to the correct directory, but the game shuts down everytime I try to start it and it tries to update itself, as if it was fixing corrupted files within its installation. Does anyone know how to fix this?
 
I suggest letting it fix the files and trying to install the mods. Follow the instructions in the readme carefully, also perhaps look at some tutorials. I guess it would have helped if perhaps you referred to which mods you were trying to install. I'm definitely not an expert on this and only succesfully added my first mods yesterday.
