How are people changing to a custom character?

in all the screen shots in the mods they all have a custom character with different clothes and i am wondering how and also if you can change back?

oh and i read that your Boss player character from SR4 can appear in GOOH. do i need to install GOOH in the same drive at Saints4 for that to work?

In order for your Boss to appear, I think so. It's only for the prologue and epilogue cutscenes, though, and the most recent SR4 save file is read

And you have to start a new GOH game for each Boss if you want to see them all abducted by Satan.
