Looking to start modding

Hey y'all.

I'll get straight to the point. I'm looking for somebody to make mods with, but who can also be a mentor and help me learn how to mod. I'm not naive, I know how to behave and I know there'll be crap loads of stuff I have to learn first and I'm willing to read things, practice things e.t.c in the hours that I have. I have learnt a slight bit of HTML and that was tough enough so I know how hard this will be. I'm always trying to think how things in games are coded, and thought I'd give it a shot myself, as well as wanting the oppertunity to make some mods that nobody ever seems to make. And I love SR3, it's one of my favourite games of all time. So if you're willing to take me on board, then I would love it. I don't want people to just say 'read this'. You can suggest reading materials for me, but I also want a partner to help me. I'm asking for a lot, but if you don't ask, you don't get.

Ok, so if anybody is nice enough, just, y'know, post :p

EDIT: Oh, and I have a pretty good PC so sytem requirements shouldn't be a problem.

Yah. I know. I fail at reading.
But, bear in mind. I'm a chimp, PLUS this is St Patricks day, hic. And I'm drunk.

Holding your hand best I can, keeping mind the above conditions.

Start at Idol Ninjas sticky post. It is well worth reading and that is understating things.

I also suggest. Just start with Idol Ninjas Gentlemen of STeelport (GoS) compilation.
Reason, it includes many mods published so far for the game in one place.
Plus a number of Idols creations.
Advantage. It helps eliminate conflicts.
Negative, you can also eliminate conflicts once you learn the FU of things with xtbl combinations when possible.

I"m no expert. Just a chimp. Plus, I drink a lot, and I have a gun.
Caveat Emptor.

Extract it in loose mode so you get all the juicy xtbl versions that are easy to comprehend (pretty much)
by the standard human as they are ASCII text files that have language a human can grasp.

No bizarre HTML needed, though those skills can't come in unhandy at some stage of life.

You can learn a lot just by eyeballing the XTBL files you find on the forums already in addition to ones from the game you
can extract via means published in IdolNinjas post mentioned in the link above.
Most of them are commented with info from the developers.

That is the extent of my current abilities to help. It is saint patty's day, and I am snockerd. Plus, I'm just a chimp.
With a gun.

Oh, I also would want to suggest the editor helper for xtbl files:
https://www.saintsrowmods.com/forum/index.php?threads/xtbl-editor.238/

It helps a bunch especially when coming across xtbl files that have not been saved with proper node
CR/LF inserts at the appropriate points.
I prefer using other ASCII editors but with the above mentioned tool you can save a poorly saved (lacking CR/LF inserts)
xtbl and then have a properly listed file in any ASCII based editor.

Okay, back to my beer and whiskey. I have feces to throw now.

Ok, done all that and had a little experimentation. Are there any guides as to learning this code? And is this code specific to saints row, or do all games use it? I only had a look at the XTBL files by the way.
