Modding Steampunk Chic holsters and stockings

Hi, all; first hack at doing any modding on SR4, so I apologize if these are obvious questions, but couldn't find anything in the search. Am trying to do a couple of things with the Steampunk Chic skirt, but I don't know how to do the one and couldn't seem to do the other:

1) For models like this and the Cowgirl Style chaps that have accessories like holsters that load dynamically based on the other items in the outfit, is it possible to force the game to always load a specific version (say, the holster-free one) of the model regardless of the other clothing? I am guessing this is in customize_items or customize_composite xtbls but I'm not sure where to look or what to modify.

2) I tried to nuke the stockings on the outfit with the alpha channel trick from the wild child pants, but I only get black legs rather than transparency to the character skin texture when I black out the stockings in the alpha channel. Am I doing something wrong or are the stockings bugged?

Edit: I should mention I did successfully edit the alpha channel on the wild child pants so the stockings are removed, so unless there's something special about this item I think I'm doing the actual edit more or less correctly.

Im pretty sure that in Alpha channels black is to hide and white is to show, they work the same as masks in PS, what program are you using to edit this with aswell

Using Photoshop with the DDS plugin. I edited to mention that this does work with the wild child pants just fine, so I'm not sure what's going on. If you look at the _d_.dds file it has the stockings as a green block with a black crosshatch and I just overlaid a black section in the alpha channel over the block. I'm not at the machine now but I can check and make sure I didn't screw something up later tonight.

If your working with Alpha channels you should use Gimp, after reading online loads of diffrent things I worked out that Photoshop cant handle alpha channels correctly for some reason I think its due to a seprate transparency options I cant rember every thing off top of my head but I was having ishues with alpha an I just used to edit all my templates etc in PS then export from gimp as you have a colour to alpha option aswell in Gimp I realy hate the Gimp shortcuts and stuff but its free and it does a good job for working on games :D

Also if your using PS then black will deffo hide any thing try using white to show and black to hide first see if that sorts the problem, Im pretty sure they work in same way as masks

Ok, I'll try it again in Photoshop and if that fails I'll bring out the GIMP. Thanks for the tip, it's good to know it's probably me/the program and not the item itself.

Any ideas on forcing particular versions of clothing models to load? Is that more of an Ask Volition question?

It depends on what you mean by particular versions of clothing models?, are you talking about like mesh's or textures, if its a graphics type problem I might be able to help you iv got a BA in G.D :), but iv only been modding SR a few months :D
