Problem with gang car colors

Not sure if this is an issue with GoS or just with SR3 in general, so I thought I'd ask if anyone else is having this issue.
When you take over a district, ambient Saints start spawning, both as pedestrians on the sidewalk and in cars. In SR2, all the cars with Saints in them were purple, but in SR3 they seem to be randomly selected from the colors used by civilian cars (though always the types of car I've selected in gang customization). This only effects saints who spawn in free roam; the ones who show up at the end of survival missions always drive purple cars. Anyone know why this is or how to fix it?
 
Yeah, it's a vanilla bug. I've seen console players report it.
 
Heck. For that matter, the Saints in my games have always been seen tooling around
in random civvies vehicles of all sorts. Not once have I recalled seeing them in any of the gang
cars I selected in the crib. Not once. The hosers.

Now, when I call them up on the phone to just drop in, they will usually arrive in a gang vehicle. Other than that. Nope.
That was before I installed mod one so I know its nothing to do with mods. Bug or feature, you pick.
 
Came up in another thread... they DO use the vehicles you tell them to in Gang Customization. However the game assumes there's a "saints" preset and thus severely limits the cars that can be gang cars (maybe if a saints preset was added.. and yes it ignores the <preset> tag in the customization list). It then when it spawns ignores the fact that there IS a saints preset (even though it's hard-coded to assume one) and spawns a version of the car in the base generic uncustomized form. Best I can figure it also ignores any weighting and always spawns the same type. Or the weighting is just broken entirely for car spawns in general, I wouldn't doubt that either anymore.

The summoned gang member cars are customized, sort of (there's a special "Saints" tank but it's not used when summoning a tank) but it's defined in another file entirely hence it ignores what you set for gang vehicles (they look the same because it chooses the default Saints vehicles).

Basically, this point is bugged to hell and back. The only workaround I can think of would be a special "Saints" version of each vehicle as an actual separate vehicle than the standard, with a "standard" variant that's the saints colouring (and no weighting so it never shows normally, if that works). And a copied "saints" variant so the gang vehicle selection doesn't wig out on it.
