Real Car Models After SDK Release? Possible?

Hi,

I was wondering, would it be possible to create real car model mods for Saints Row IV after Volition has released the SDK for the modding community?

You know how GTA modders do such thing? Would it be possible here? Or how about car body parts such as wheels, front bumpers, rear bumpers, body kits, decals etc?

Let me know. Thanks!

It would definitely be possible, Volition said that the SDK tools that they're currently working on will allow custom meshes to be added to the game, so we can have new cars, weapons, clothing, ect. To be quite honest though, I'm not too interested in seeing real life cars in saints row. I'd just like to see some of my old favorites from SR1, 2 and 3 returning in the form of a mod

I'd (try to) do it... If I still had access to 3DS Max.

Modding in cars after real life counterparts, but doing so in the exaggerated art style of Saints Row would be great. Same for weapons.

Well if the idea of real car models is not to great I think more car parts would be nice. Give them more style and colors to lol

That's right. I never showed any interest in getting real-life vehicles into games like GTA or SR. Custom vehicles based on fictional in-game ones are keeping the atmosphere and overall style. And now, where is that Bezier...

You heard the man, where's the Bezier Volition.

Possible sure. If it's not legal though (pretty sure it isn't because you have to pay a license to use car brands in games as far as I know?) then it's kinda not worth the modeling time, because the models couldn't be shared.

If it's free, it's legal. And mods are free. Just look at GTA, the majority of GTA mods are real cars.

If Volition were to make real cars for SR IV however they'd have to ask (and pay) for permission from the manufacturers. But such a thing is close to impossible, for two reasons:

1. Cause racing game developers are fighting over rights, and certain brands gave licensing rights exclusvely to certain developers (Ferrari -> Microsoft, Porsche -> EA, etc).

2. More importantly, no manufacturer would agree to have their cars rendered in a game in which they get shot to bits, blown up, crushed by tanks or monster trucks, frozen, melted, etc. or where running people over is on the daily basis. Only exceptions were Opel, Vauxhall and Pontiac. They appeared in Wheelman and were fully destructible, but that's only because the company that owned these brands was on the verge of bankruptcy (and is bankrupt now).
