Saints Row Franchise

Even Volition has pointed out the division the different entries of Saints Row has created among fans. Many feeling SR 2 was infinitely superior and so on an so forth. Then as is the case with all franchises, the PC gamers blame the console for their game getting dumbed down to be able to play on the lower spec'd home console (even though most PC gamers play on laptops from 2005.....derka derka)

Maybe it's just me....but sometimes I'm in the mood for SR 2.....sometimes I wanna rock it The Third style...now I can even scratch that hard to reach "Death from above Nuke'em all to hell".....itch. Even now I can't choose between SRTT and SR 4. They are similar, but damn.....if you've been rocking SR 4 for a while thinking it's basically the same as The Third.....fire up Saints Row the Third....It's like it's own distinct franchise.

My point is that it would be cool to have a Saints Row 2 with updated graphics and animations.....but not if I didn't get to have my SRTT and SR 4......I really love them all for completely different reasons. Frankly I have NO IDEA what we are going to get next.....on the other hand GTA will always be about a MAN in his mid to late 40's, though his race will vary. This man will arrive at many buildings only to have his target sneak out the back door. Our 40 year old hero will then chase him in a car.....over, and over, and over...well except for when you get a hooker or bowl like an angel (seriously.....every single mission......what is that?)

Any ways, my point being that SR 2 was awesome....but it still functions last I checked....maybe someday budget and time willing we will get a game that can replace SR 2 as it did with SR 1....but for now....we got 3 rocking games.....and that is excellent. Sure SR 4 isn't SR 2, but at least it isn't GTA 4. Am I right? High five! END OF SCENE.

I have to admit that I did find a new appreciation for SR3 after playing SR4. It's odd.. I didn't quite like the game, but I realized after playing a lot of SR4... sure it's in theory the same city.. but it looks so DIFFERENT. You have to use all these different "vehicles" to get around! I mean, you can't run up the side of skyscrapers, leap off, and glide to the next island. You have to scurry along the ground instead! And... I realized there's a different feel to it. Even over SR2, SR3 has that fast swervy tight-corner driving feel to it that SR2 didn't get so much not having the same tight downtown packed areas.. and SR4 in the same city is entirely different because you're rarely on ground level.

I still prefer SR2 to SR4, but it's a different game. It's not so much like comparing SR2 to SR3, SR4 is like some super-power simulator, in the Saints Row universe. It's glorious, but it's a different glorious than the other games.

Exactly. However I'll admit I secretly hope that with SR 5 that Volition takes the current engine and focuses on a mecha game like SR 2 with all the secrets and hidden islands and so on. It's totally possible now that the consoles are moving to 8 gb of ram and semi octo core chips and the average PC is 64 bit, with 8gb ram and quad core chip. Rarely is that the case but I'm hoping this generation was about maximizing graphic capabilities within smaller worlds then previous generations (GTA, Elder Scrolls) and the next is about merely continuing the current graphical look and focus reexpanding the worlds to Morrowind, San Andreas and Saints Row 2 levels. More likely is the extra resources will be put into dynamic product placement....hahaha...oh god, it is so gonna happen. I bet a bazzillion Septims that games will begin keeping track of what you search for online and dynamically place adds for it in the game world like google does.......I have seen the future, and want to die now....

Only EA do that advertising shit wouldnt expect it from Koch...

Personally (I know everyone will hate on me for this); but im not a fan of SR 1 and 2, yes granted stillwater is better than steelport but they felt stupid to play for me they just didnt grab me; now SR3 and 4 are a different story; the third is amazing and 4 is probably one of the most enjoyable games for me to date; I just hope that 5 is larger in content thats my only complaint with 3 and 4

IMO they are all great games, but they are also all quite different despite having characters and game elements in common. Sure, if you look at it with a defeatist's eye, you'll say "I don't like this game because I liked the way the other game did it better" or "because it has X where the other game doesn't". And you may be somewhat right, in that context. But if you look at each of the games individually, without comparing it to any of the other games in the series, they are all pretty great games and do what they intended to do quite nicely (SR2 PC porting fiasco aside lol)
