For SR1/SR2 modding to take a quantum leap forward, one needs to figure out the games' animation system. There are several animation files (I won't recall the exact extension, though) that are tied to the corresponding cutscenes. I'm not talking about making custom animation (although seeing GMod-esque skits on the engine would be hilarious).
Right now one needs to obtain info about animation rigs used in the game and disassemble the animation files with the subsequent import to 3D software.
I do hope this first step would bring us eventually to the toolset that'll allow to do much more than simple animation swaps.
