Steam co-op isn't working

So my friend and I are trying to play SR4 co op but its giving us a version mismatch error. I got my version of saints row 4 from steam (low violence version) and my friend (also Australian) got his game from EB Games (but still had to download the game through steam and got the low violence version as well). I have no idea what is happening. None of us have any mods installed and we have also tried disabling all dlc's, but it still doesn't work. Any ideas how to fix this?
 
This comes up a lot. In every single case it turned that one of the players had the regular uncensored version and the other had the low violence version. You'll need to contact Steam support.
