Steam Overlay not working

Some reason the overlay ceased working, it's nothing to do with programs hooking into the directx since I've disabled those things and it still doesn't. I also verified the files, nothing there. I've also made sure Steam community was checked on and it is.

Also when I look up the task manager somehow it thinks SRIV is the inauguration station so that may be a factor? Not sure.
 
The executable for SRIV says it's the Inauguration Station in it's Description (Right click the EXE, Properties)

Try restarting Steam / Your computer and see if that clears it up.
 
Doesn't seem to fix it, just not sure why it's doing this. Noticed the GameoverlayUI.exe doesn't load when I start SRIV, but it loads when I start other games.
 
What happens when you exit completely out of Steam and then try running SRIV by double-clicking the SaintsRowIV.exe executable?
Does it load Steam?
 
Hmm.. if it's loading Steam when you run the executable, then the Steam Hooks are working properly.
I'm confused why the overlay isn't working though.

Since this issue is Isolated to just you, so far, and seems to be unrelated to the game, specifically.. I'm going to move this thread to the Get-help/Troubleshooting forum.
 
I figured out the problem on my own, it was SWEETFX. I was using a sweetFX preset, it didn't cause this problem before but something in the new patch must've messed something up about it. Maybe they have to update it for each patch? I dunno. But turning SweetFX off brought my overlay back.

It's a shame since sweetFX makes the game look 100% better with it's extra colors and sharpness.
 
Well, that's good you figured it out.

You should let the SweetFX guys know, so that they can update it to work with the new patch.
 
That I did. And also I installed an older version of sweetFX and it works. Guess the newer versions need updating, I don't see the difference between what they call "SweetFX NEXT" and SweetFX 1.4 or what they added that made the need to update for patches. But at least now I get the best of both worlds. Thanks for the help.
