SRIV Vehicle Sounds

There is a little problem which I don't know if anyone else spoted, but in The Third, when you press the button to accelarate there is a small second delay on the engine sound, the same thing with NOS, the sound is of sync.

Will this be fixed in the 4th game?

This is likely the sound moving into the cache. On consoles this usually occurs the first time in a game session that the player uses a vehicle or nitrous and then is fine until the game is relaunched... on PC I believe it is dependent on the machine's performance.

I'm not terribly certain how much can be done about it. The bug plagued us on SRTT and we shipped with the issue still open. Luckily on SR4 cars won't be used quite as often so it won't be as noticeable of a problem.

"moving into the cache" What do you mean by that? If everyone was focusing on this issue, would it be a pain to fix?

The sounds in SR1 and 2 were fine, making the third, was that like giving the 2nd game a complete overhaul or did you make everything from scratch?

And for me, I love using helis rather then cars lol.

We move sounds into the cache to improve future playback of the sound. It's a memory management thing.

SR1 and SR2 were on rusty old stone-age middleware. We built the project from scratch using Wwise for implementation on SRTT and kept the same basic project structure (with optimizations) for SR4. We never really took full advantage of Wwise though, still using code to do a lot of things it didn't need to, but since we made the switch to Wwise for Red Faction: Armageddon we've been gradually moving away from that issue.

Personally I prefer super powers ;)

Oh well.
Well I hope in future you find a solution to these 2 great games!

Anyway, thanks for the replys.
