360 controller fix

I would like it a lot if someone could work out how to fix the controller issues this game has as helicopter flight with kb/m sounds like hell

I personally have an official 360 pad that came with an early (now dead) 360 from the times of RROD and it noticies it and has all the buttons completely screwed with r stick being l stick and so on with them being wrong and inverted b being a and so on.

The 360 pad automatically installs as 3 entries in device manager 1 the Xbox 360 Controller for Windows and 2 under Human Interface Devices one of which is HID-compliant game controller and the other USB Input Device disabling any of which makes it fail to accept that the controller exists.

The double input issue fix for some games (a dinput8.dll file that blocks all input from all but a single controller) doesn't work for it so yeah if anyone can figure out some kind of fix for this that actually works be it modding the game so it will work or what have you then I will love you forever.

I use a 360 controller for flight all the time, no issues with buttons or sticks, ever. Sounds like an issue with your specific controller.

I don't believe it is caused by double input but that is the only actual problem that I have ever noticed with my controller (which only showed in 2 specific games the last remnant and sleeping dogs) which the dll I mentioned fixed for both of them which is why I tried it for the issues here which it just made the game fail to read any input from the pad.

There have been a couple of games that don't seem to recognize the controller but they where games better played with kb/m anyway and most games reconize it as a 360 pad as they should, from what little I've been able to gather about the problem it is similar to one of the ways unofficial (therefore unsupported) controllers have screwed up with sr3.

Pretty sure my controller is fine (as I use it for a fair few other games with 0 issues) and if it isn't an actual issue with the game (which seems like the most likely thing) then it's more likely something in my o.s freaking out in some way.

I think the thing with the pad showing as 3 devices is normal since some post about it by microsoft staff say it should show as the three things it does for me but yeah, kinda annoyed that it refuses to work with sr3 for me since the flight missions would make the game downright unplayable with kb/m (played through the basegame on an old flatmates 360 so I know how bad some of the helicopter missions are even with a gamepad).

I do think it's something to do with how sr3 handles gamepads though since with gentlement of the row sr2 runs fine with the pad since it allows more normalized binds.

Yes, having multiple "devices" tied to the single unit is normal. Try updating your 360 gamepad drivers from Microsoft (you can uninstall the "accessories" when you're done, and the driver stays): http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/d/xbox-360-controller-for-windows

Otherwise, a new one is only like $30, so that might be your best bet. Borrow one from a friend to try, if you can.
