A Bit More Layering

"I feel like removing these restrictions would make it feel more like SR2 in some ways. It wouldn't be layering, but it would be better than what we have now!"
War Raichu - 07/06/2012

About the mod:

The goal of "A Bit More Layering" is to bring as much layering as possible to the SRTT clothing system.

Like me, you probably noticed something weird with the clothes in SRTT: the bras would always disappear no matter what kind of shirt you put on, even if the shirt had some exposed part that should logically reveal the bra. Same for the boxer shorts and panties that would be hidden by all Lower Body items regardless of how much skin they are showing. The necklaces and chains also suffered much of the same fate, disappearing when wearing most of the Upper Body items.

This mod removes many of the <Obscured_slot> flags inside customization_items.xtbl and dlc2_customization_items.xtbl in a thoughtful and logical way, in order to be able to see many smaller item when wearing clothes that should not be covering them, while also keeping those small items hidden when wearing clothes that should logically cover them, as to avoid clipping.

Modded items

Some necklaces and chains are now visible while wearing the following items:
-member of the row (from New Clothing for Sale)
-Volition (from New(er) Clothing for Sale)
-Santa suit (from SRIV Customization Items)
-Gat suit (from SRIV Customization Items)
-Aisha suit (from SRIV Customization Items)
-draped turtleneck (from SRIV Customization Items)

Some bras are now visible while wearing the following items:
-Admixon: Stilwater swimsuit (from SR:TT | Stilwater Swimsuit)
-Aisha suit (from SRIV Customization Items)
-wife beater tease (from SRIV Customization Items)

Bottom underwear items are now visible while wearing the following item:
-Stilwater Swimsuit (from SR:TT | Stilwater Swimsuit)

Wrists items are now visible while wearing the following item:
-fleur de saints hoodie (from New(er) Clothing for Sale)

Gloves and rings are now visible while wearing the following item:
-Gat suit (from SRIV Customization Items)

Legend:

Pink means that the item is only included in the "Female Player Character" version (because there's too much clipping with male characters)
Red means that the item is clipping with several other items
Yellow mean that the item is clipping with a single other item
Green means that the item will most likely clip with extrem body proportions (mainly fat and sex-appeal)

Miscellaneous change:

-If using SRIV Customization Items, bottom underwear items will no longer be visible while wearing the "jeans" and "track pants" items (they were visible by default but this didn't add anything except clipping, because you wouldn't be able to see underwear under those pants anyway).
-If using SR:TT | Stilwater Swimsuit, the price of the titular item will be 500$ instead of 11$ (500$ is the price of "the go-go" dress in the vanilla game, Admixon replaced it with the Stilwater swimsuit and changed the price asociated to the item to be 11$, I just thought the vanilla price of 500$ was more fitting for such an iconic item).

Compatibility:

A Bit More Layering includes compatible versions for the following mods (and any combination of them) :
-Any nude mod
-New Clothing for Sale & New(er) Clothing for Sale
-Steelport Gangs DLC fixes
-SR:TT | Stilwater Swimsuit
-SRIV Customization Items

A Bit More Layering is fully compatible with the following mods :
-SR4 Hairstyles for SR3
-Mamba Leather Jacket Texture Fix
-Shiny clothes for the main character
-Hot Boots variations
-FBI Agent Clothes
-Drive Movie Jacket
-Hooters Tanktop for SRTT & Hooters Shorts for SRTT
-Punisher Logo
-Revy, Black Lagoon in SRTT
-and basically any other mod that doesn't use customization_items.xtbl or dlc2_customization_items.xtbl

*Although don't forget that if you want to use some of these mods together you'll need to use SR3 ASM_PC files updater.

Installation:

-Install any combination of the following mods (if you wish to use them): nude mod, New Clothing for Sale, New(er) Clothing for Sale, Steelport Gangs DLC fixes, SR:TT | Stilwater Swimsuit, SRIV Customization Items. Which customization_items.xtbl file gets priority doesn't matter at this point so don't worry about that.
-Run the SR3 ASM_PC files updater if needed.
-Download A Bit More Layering and open the archive. You should now be faced with 32 different files on top of the readme, just open the one that corresponds to your mod list.
-Once you've opened a file you should now have a choice between two files: "Female Player Character" and "Male Player Character". The only difference between these two is that the female version contains a few more modified items that have a lot of clipping with male characters. So if you play as a male and don't mind clipping, you can just use the female version without any problem.
-Once you've decided between the male or female version you should see two or three .xtbl files, put these in the SR3 root folder (where the .exe files are located) and overwrite everything you've previously downloaded. And done!

Future plans:

-Fix the baldness issue with "women's track top up" and "fleur de saints hoodie".
-Make additional changes to "decker soldier", "morningstar specialist", "luchador soldier", "Aisha suit"and "Spank me" (I need to do a bit more digging to be able to fully modify these items).
-Completely rework the wrestling and bondage masks to make them work with hats, glasses, and earrings when appropriate.

As you can see this mod isn't quite finished. But I just couldn't keep adding stuff for now. I didn't want to delay the release further, this mod already took way more time than it should have. I barely have enough time to play games anymore, let alone create mods, like most mod makers it would seem...

I am open to criticism, and if you think something should be changed I am willing to consider it. Besides I probably missed a few items that could be improved as well, so don't hesitate to let me know if you see something in game that could use some more layering.

Tools used:

Wow, what a throwback! I didn't even remember making that comment haha.

Would you happen to know if F13's Super Ethical Patch is compatible with your mod? At first glance his mod appears to incorporate both New Clothing for Sale and Steelport Gangs DLC fixes, so all I would have to do is use your files from the folder with those two mods in the name, right?

I won't be able to give you a definitive answer unfortunately. The Super Ethical Patch is a bit weird. It uses a version of Steelport Gangs DLC fixes that is obsolete since 2013. Also, some of the items that are included in New Clothing for Sale are missing from The Super Ethical Patch (head antenna, and Cyrus' suit).
Although the most problematic is that the customization_items.xtbl file that is included in The Super Ethical Patch doesn't seem to use the original vanilla file as its base (the file that you can extract from misc_tables.vpp_pc), so, as it uses a slightly different format, I can't really compare it to the vanilla file to see exactly what changes were made. I really don't know where F13 got this specific customization_items.xtbl.

The best course of action would be to use file number 11 (New Clothing for Sale + Steelport Gangs DLC fixes) from A Bit More Layering and overwriting all the files from The Super Ethical Patch. You would get one additional fix for the gang DLC. However you might loose a few features that were included in the customization_items.xtbl from The Super Ethical Patch.
