Any word on a fix for the gang customization crash for Win XP users?

I didn't see this topic in the general chat section, so I figured I'd post on it to see if anyone has any info or can suggest work-arounds for this error.

I loved SR2, and I've quickly developed a soft spot for SR3 as well...it just seems that the devs couldn't make either game without Win XP users getting the shaft to a degree. With SR2 being a bad PC port, XP users had the latency problem while driving at medium to high speeds in vehicles (I've heard that Vista also had an issue, but a powertools program was made to fix it). SR2 was such a fun game that I suffered through the graphics issues to play the game (I really hoped that someone could have fixed it). The Gents of the Row Mod took a great game and made it better.

I'm really hoping that XP users won't get left in the cold again with SR3, and I hope a fix for the gang customization crash is released/created soon. SR3 was built with customization in mind, and with all of the gang customization options the game has; it really sucks not being able to use them.

So if anyone has heard of or knows of anything that can resolve this issue; don't be shy. I read in one forum that using the gang customization while hosting a LAN game would bypass the crash, but that method didn't work for me. With the exception of the gang crash; the game runs like a dream on my system. So any info would be greatly appreciated.

My understanding is that the gang customization crashing is an issue with pirated versions of the game. Are you saying that you bought a legitimate Steam version and still having that problem?

Also, you fix XP compatibility issues by upgrading to windows 7, you old bastards ;)

The copy I have was pre-ordered from Gamestop. After looking at the SR3 forums; it seems a lot of people on XP still using DX9 are having the issue. A Volition mod even posted in the thread trying to get more info on the crash in order to try and fix it. So it seems like there's a lot of people using DX9 with this issue. I know where Volition stands on the issue, but I wanted to check this site to see if any modders had found a work-around for it on DX9 since modders here did a LOT to smooth out SR2 and are hard at work on SR3.

As far as upgrading to Win 7; I can safely say that I hate that OS after using it on my business computer (just keep in mind that it's not a gaming system, so I don't play games on the Win 7 Dell I have). Out of all of the new releases I've been playing (Skyrim, D-Ex Human Rev., Batman: Arkam City, etc.) SR3 is the only one that has any crash issues on my XP system.

In any event; thanks for the replies. If I find any more info I'll share it here just in case anyone else at this site is an old bastard having issues. :)

Take care guys.

Does it still require Steam? I'm trying to work out what editions of SR:TT are available.

This is going to get more and more common as XP loses market share, it's inevitable. Remember that XP is, at it's core, 10 years old.

SR:TT is a Steamworks game. No matter you get it on dvd or digital download other than Steam you will require Steam.

IMO WinXP is dead. I use XP in virtual machines because some of my really old games flatout don't like the new OS.:(

I'm still waiting on a definitive answer from Volition on it. Right now it looks like there may actually be standalone disk check only available in certain regions. It's hard to say for sure though with how pirates often lie about it to try and get help.

Yes the Gamestop pre-order still requires Steam (just like the disc version I have of SR2). Since it feels like people are convinced that only pirated copies are having this issue (see the above comment); I'll not bother the people in the forum with this issue anymore. I like the site, and I appreciate the hard work people are doing to mod the games...but it seems that people with the crash issue are being written off as pirates and liars, so I'll not waste anymore of anyone's time on it. Keep up the good work on the mods, and take care of yourselves. :)

Don't be overly dramatic.

That's what we've observed so far, if it's not the case then we can see what we can do. I personally don't see this crash, but I play in DX11 mode.

Going to be totally honest, I bought a copy, works just fine, zero issues. I copied my own legit version and cracked it because I was bored, this issue happened. I honestly have no idea what causes it in the differentiation between the 2 versions, I can only assume that there is some file somewhere in terms of routing that just doesn't work out correctly.
