Depends on the mod. The expanded colors is already in the game so other players should be able to see it. As for actual texture mods, no. They would have to grab the data somehow. As for mods that mess with mechanics, I've had mostly bad luck unless the other player had the same mods as I did.can others see the mods you use?
will it break the game and not let you connect to others?
Yes, that is the most confusing part. I never heard of texture data being sent back and forth from player to player. As for mods that change mechanics in the game, it's an automatic CTD for me :/It appears, from evidence in another thread, that your character's texture data is actually transmitted to the co-op player.
edit: That is unconfirmed, and it wouldn't make a lot of sense for it to be the case, so don't take this answer too seriously.
I can second this. I was using custom skin colors and the co-op partner playing vanilla saw it fine.It appears, from evidence in another thread, that your character's texture data is actually transmitted to the co-op player.

I had problems seeing the character of one of my friends, i don't know if it was a bug during his connection to my game or because of the mods he was using.
Sadly i can't recall which mods he was using :\
here's what i saw, or rather didn't saw
