custom models?

If the modding community would be as big as the GTA community, we would already have the import/export filters for Zmodeler, gmax/3ds max, blender and whatnot. And lots of tools for every little bit of the game. But so far Saints Row is still called "just another GTA-copy" despite it having alot of fans, even in the GTA community.

Frustrates me too.. and you know the better irony is the modders who use GTA instead of this also tend to do wacky over the top mods to make it more like Saints Row in turn. And then that's ok because it's just a mod don't play it or something.

However, there are some amazing things you see out of the GTA series.. the bigger irony though is they're oft limited to San Andreas because of how customizable it is (GTA4 apparently has some real issues in some mechanics from what I've heard). And let's face it, it's true, you'll never see a mod like Multi Theft Auto for Saints Row series. (Because it already has multiplayer! :p )

But really, what we need is someone who can poke about at these files and follow how it is to work with it and pull out the guts and assemble them into something sensible for us. That might happen eventually.. and moreso, well, GTA cheated. They released some of the tools initially for GTA3 etc, and then didn't dramatically overhaul the formats. The biggest accomplishment if you ask me they did was finding ways to inject into the process, from the trainers right up to the ASM loaders for 4 that let you run actual 3rd-party scripts in-game. SR does that innately at least but I'm not sure how cleanly we can ADD yet.
