SPOILERS Enter the Dominatrix: The Review

GTA has since the start of number 3 focused on story. While it portrays a gritty underworld it quite often has spots of ridiculousness. The latest saints in my opinion do not focus as much on the story and they go off the deep end of the ridiculousness. As Gat mentioned at the start of SRTT it seems they traded their dicks in for pussies, then sold said pussy for a strap on. Such unclassy words that speak depth.

Well, I still think that all Saints Row games except TT have a deep story.

The first one was what it was, the first next gen gta clone. The second one felt like a sequel and there was even some QT style dialogue going back and forth which I felt added more depth to the cast. The third felt like there was so much that they wanted to do with it but didn't have the time or budget. Fourth seemed to follow further in that direction and it seems the DLC takes it even further.

I dunno. Seems V got shafted near the end with their creation. I'm just looking forward to whatever the unnamed project is with hopes that they will be allowed to give it the time of day it deserves.

That's the funny thing. DLC story missions take a lot of time and effort, yet all we want are new activities which use replay ability rather then straight up linear play. Volition needs to remember how to MILK IT! High scores, mission replay, unlockables. All of these things take less time yet add the most amount of play hours to the game. An example would be the hidden islands of SR 2. People spent hours and hours looking for them. They didn't take Volition all that long to place in game, but provided hours of enjoyment. SR 3 and SR 4 trimmed things like this off of the game replacing it with straight up story missions and elaborate set pieces. They spend more time and money on these set pieces yet produce far fewer play hours.

Yeah I guess it depends on the player. I definitely prefer more elaborate story missions as we saw in SRTT and SRIV than the higher quantity of activities and unique areas to explore in SR2. In an ideal world we'd get it all, but I guess I'm just one of those people who preferred the direction they went in with SRTT and SRIV. I feel open world exploration is something I get more out of in a series like Elder Scrolls or even GTA IV or GTA V than I ever did with SR2. I feel the missions are a lot more fun in the newer games, the combat is so much more fluid (it's unfortunate that SRIV may never see any form of mission replay) and I feel the story in SRTT and SRIV are a lot more consistent in their tone, and they are better because of it. SR2's story wasn't bad, but the more serious moments of it felt out of place, and practically felt like they were written for a different game. I liked Volition was more cognisant of that in the newer games, and the story has just been consistently funny (all IMO of course).

I just wish we were getting more substantial content in the DLC, which seems to continue to be the weak point of the series for me.

This is an interesting topic, and I agree I was disappointed, and would have happily paid more for new places in the city (like a revamped saints HQ and that stupid ship you can't enter), good activities, rescuing sr2 characters and Viola (not Zimos), interesting gameplay, no sex jokes, time travel to kill Zinyak (again) to save earth, new clothing, vehicles and customization options and having an integrated Paul fight where you actually fly inside instead of just appearing there. This sounds more like an expansion pack but gosh darn it's what I wanted! The best thing I got out of this was the Saints HQ that was in that first mission, Sandbox allowed me to place it in my map, and although you can clip inside it, it gives the city some more eye candy.

Saints Row 4 itself is something that I thoroughly enjoy, it almost definitely could be better, but theirs something about it that just... clicks with me. The character customization has so much potential, and I like the concept of tailoring your characters personality, instead of all the versions of the Boss (it just doesn't feel right for my character) being lacking in comparison to the supposedly smart Kinsie (she really irks me). For exmaple, how "smart" your character is (and how they speak), your relationship with certain npcs, and how people react to you. Although I don't mind the whole psychopath who wrecks havoc thing (it works well for the gameplay no? :3).

Gat time fun time was a surprisingly great mission, in the way it helped wrap up sr3 plot lines, the awesome music, and somehow, the gameplay was just at its best in that arena and with the point counter. Also fighting Philipe with his new voice was awesome (why was he not a homie!?!). It gives me the idea of a reality climax editor, where you post your custom arenas and game modes on the workshop, ugh how amazing that would be.

I know volition can't do to much and this point, and I'm not sure what kind of budget limitations it has (it honestly doesn't have to do with GTA), but Titanfalls team for example isn't that big, and since the game sold so well, I hope there is more flexibility and room for creative potential in the future.

I mostly just liked it fort he lulz and dialog, though I do agree from a gameplay point of few, EtD missed the mark since the five missions where just not interesting and the fact that the characters even made fun of the missions even shows Volition knew they sucked. , hell if it was not for the dialog I would probably fall asleep because the gameplay it self was poor, it was simply the dialog and jokes that made the dlc at least enjoyable(As a ASOIAF, I lol'd hard at the GoTs joke)

Overall, I didn't expect anything and got alot of laughs for a cheap price that is bundled with crappy missions.

hey since it sold well, you can bet your ass there will be an sr V. i hope we keep the superpowers, but at the same time we get a bigger, badder open world.
also, i have high hopes (since it did sell well) maybe the saints save xmas will be much better?

Its great that SR4 sold well. I'm not sure if there's going to be a direct sequel (maybe it will be a spiritual successor), but whatever there is, it will be interesting to see. I hope they are able to take their time with it and not rush anything, Saints Row 4, despite not having the best tech surrounding it, seems like it could (possibly) get longevity with the possible future modding, and however much content Volition decides to add.

I tend to just wander the open world trying out new customization combinations, since I have bled the content pretty dry. I like the idea of having a more personal character, and I hope they continue that idea with any future games or content. Choices in the traditional sense don't suite it, but things like selecting history and more differences in the way different characters react depending on how you design them seems like a nice concept. It could be an interesting way to manage the realistic and the ludicrous in the future. And more developed romance options in stead of just one off gags might be good. You could have dinosaurs or lazer guns or other zany ideas, but make it an easter egg or available hidden stores, and don't have the story acknowledge it. Allowing for the characters to behave as realistically or absurdly as you want as a player. Have an arcade locale for text adventures and techno activities, have creative spots minigames you can put a creative spin on, have formal high class locales with unique npcs. Allow for real weapons (stylized realism isn't bad), and create a dynamic where a coop buddy can show you some interesting secret they found.

The quest chart really wasn't the best idea if you were just using it to show the activities, discovering an activity when you find a tank or finding a place to sign up for Reality Climax would be more immersive and allow for more dynamic discovery while keeping absurd humour, I get the idea of displaying content so players can find it easily, maybe balance that idea by having main missions with kick ass action sequences in the open world or more methodical activities (limiting annoyance always seems to be a hard balance) demonstrating where to find activities, and allow you to do those things in the open world sandbox. The airborne skydiving missions in three would be even more amazing if you could do that anytime you want in the open world. Pleasant Ville would be more hilarious if you could go to it freely on the ship, with some unique and comedic behaviour from the Nuclear family style npcs in the world.

I still don't know what is possible, but Volition has a lot of potential freedom in what they design creatively, and Saints Row 4 is still a good game, so I hope they don't rush anything.
