graphics error: no gun fire or explosions

hi guys. I havent been on here for ages (since I uninstalled the game last year) and I am having a weird error in the game. whenever you shoot your gun there is no gun fire coming out of the barrel, and there are no explosion/fire effects showing up of any kind. I think this happened when I installed the game for the first time but I dont remember what I did to fix it and Im not finding any solutions with google. please help! attached is what I am using for settings...

Why do people post these types of topics in General chat when there is clearly a "Get Help / Troubleshooting" forum only 6 lines down from this one?

sorry, I didnt see that section until about 5 minutes after I posted. and I did a search in the forums but couldnt find a solution.
 
Do you have any kind of mods installed?

Try using Steam to Verify the Integrity of your Local files and make sure any of them are not corrupted.
 
it's a fresh install, unless for some reason whatever mods I used last year are still on my machine somewhere and conflicting with the fresh install.
 
When you uninstalled the game, did you delete everything out of the Steam\steamapps\common\saints row the third folder?

Just to make sure, go to that folder, and delete all files ending in:
.ASM_PC
.LUA
.STR2_PC
.XTBL

Then re-run the file verify in Steam.
 
damn, apparently I never completely deleted my SR3 folder because all my saves and my mods are still here (I forgot how smoking hot my character was! is there a way to start a new game using that same character, or do I have to start from scratch?) also by editing those nvidia settings it looks like it fixed the effects problem too. I did the verify files thing too and there were no problems there. thanks for the help :)
