GTA V new screens

It looks too much like Liberty City. :( I thought they wern't going to be lazy and give it a cheap boob job. I though they would actually re-create an entire new city. But, you get what you get, and don't throw a fit.

That looks nothing like Liberty City. At all.

It doesn't look like Liberty City, agreed.

It also however doesn't look like either of the three regions from San Andreas. Hrm.
It vaguely looks like Vice City I have to admit. But that says little.

I guess they just reused some assets with a bit of texture/model updating or what. Much easier than a whole new game. It'll still be far low-res compared to inevitable result though (texture wise and all) since they'll have to shrink it all down to fit on 360 and PS3, and I doubt they'll be nice enough to give us the super hi-res proper version. This is the NEW R*. We should be thankful they let us put in our own custom music!

Yes. Consoles are absolutely ruining the next generation graphics for PC gamers. Everybody oos and ahhs and Skyrin graphics. That's because they never scaled it down to fit console ports. And what makes low res games slow on PC is that they leave in the console port, and don't optimize the quad core xbox port to at least a dual core PC port.

The 360 has a triple core processor, with with 2x simultaneous multi threading (so 6 threads at once).
I agree about the graphics though - hopefully when we see the next generation of consoles that'll improve. However, if the Wii U is anything to go by, console graphics are already going to be significantly behind current PC graphics again. The chips they're talking about for the PS3 and new xbox are already outdated too.

Still, as long as they can render games actually at 1080p it'll be a massive improvement, unlike most current games - a lot of which render at resolutions like 1024x576 and scale it up to 720p (at only 30fps).

Actually, they did size down skyrim. A lot. Skyrim like most console games does a bit of trickery to hide shortcomings.
The textures are really low-res.. and all the other maps including alphas and bumps and such are REALLY lo-res. As in, under 100 each way. Ever wonder why faces looked so ugly? That's why, they're a lo-res and mirrored.

There's the hi-res textures patch Bethesda released which replaces it with their higher-resolution originals. It fixes stuff. However, you still find out how low the game is even with if you look. The reason it's tough to notice is the fog. This game has tighter fog than an old 3dfx era game. If you fiddle with the fog settings you'll notice how lo-res it is... the game past right up near you looks like Oblivion levels. Which is kinda sad. (Oh, and the fog is also related to why the water has a visibility that made fallout 3 look crystal clear).

But like all those games, coming out on the pc means you can patch them a bit. ENB series is famous for post-processing for many games, modders here are finally putting in stuff removed like day cycles, some tuning, and there's that hi-res texture pack.. and hardware has long since outstripped consoles with a lot.

Of course, that's how it goes. The bubble will pop soon enough though and pcs will come back into 'vogue' as the development platform. Can't come soon enough... I'm a fan of Thief games and Thief 4 is in development.. after how crippled 3 was to fit on an xbox (those tiny tiny levels? Because of memory limitations) well, I'm worried the 4th will be crippled the same to fit on a 360, and not just graphics wise but control and otherwise.

I am regularly using around 972MB of my 1GB 7750 while playing Skyrim

Sure, uses a bit, but it still fakes that quality rather than actually does it even if your computer could.

Seriously.. don't believe me? Try opening console, and trying someting like "setfog 50000.0 100000.0" or higher. That there will drop the fog back a ways out of range. Higher numbers will go further. Don't worry it doesn't persist across saves, but do it when you're not worried about achievements that session (as in before you quit the game and start it up again later), it IS a console command.

Doesn't look quite so pretty, does it? Uses the same lo-res maps for 'terrain noise' as oblivion and fo3. Considering a lot of those mountains have no trees to help, it ends up looking a lot like a white Oblivion mountain. Kinda sad.

My point is, same for GTAV. It's gonna be made for consoles, and gimped accordingly. Worse, they're showing off these "New screens". Look at the graphics! Woo! Except it won't DO that when you play because the textures will be crap. At least the GTA modding community is still fairly big, they'll be able to make the game properly shine.
(Remember the days when we loved the pc versions of the games because they were demonstrably superior in all ways? I miss those days)
