Is it "canon"?

One thing that I've always liked about SR was the fact that it was kinda of a prequel to the Red Faction games. Now that there are aliens and such I was wondering if SR4 is considered a canon game in the timeline.

Note that I didn't played SR4 yet, so I don't know if there's any reference to it.

I finished the game today and I reached the conclusion that it is not cannon.(playing the game is self-explanatory that it doesn't link with Red Faction series).

EDIT: Ultor is mentioned a little in SRIV but there is a moment in the game which kills off any hope that RF is linked to SRIV universe.You will be pretty much disappointed.

Never liked Red Faction so... I don't care :p

Way I see it if Volition forgets completely about Red Faction they'll focus more on Saints Row... Wishful thinking?

Well, considering that Volition no longer owns the rights to the Red Faction series(other than the Ultor name and logo from it), I highly doubt they're going to work on any more Red Faction games, nevermind attempting to try to link the two series together. Plus, with the... Earth being blown up by Zinyak...er, huge plot point from IV, there's no longer any realistic connections between the two series anyways.

Please do not go off topic about the merits of Red Faction.

As for SR4, it's certainly canonical within the Saints Row series, but i don't think any of the games are within the Red Faction series. Any association between the two was referential at best. "Kind of a prequel", perhaps, but not literally one.
