Why did Deepsilver and Volition put Jane Austen in the game when she was only in one scene?

While the only time you see her on screen is the ending, she did act as the narrator in a few scenes.
She's like Jane Valderrama in Saints Row, the only difference is that you never get to see her body.
I have to admit though, I'm still not sure the fixation with Jane Austen. I assumed it was because she was a known writer of those romances, and it would be funny that the evil alien overlord Zinyak had a soft spot for that sort of thing as his sort of novel.
Although, he's not the only one.. I do recall assorted voices make remarks about "Jane Austen or nothing" or the sort..

What? No, no, I got that. I'm saying, the reason they DID THAT is because it seemed funny the big bad and cultured but also violent megomaniacal overlord.. would love the romance stories of Austen, over whatever else there is.
Remember, someone or many someones at Volition designed his character, and a lot of the game seems based upon the rule of "whatever was funniest/most awesome". So this is probably because it was funniest.
Although the Boss also loving her work is great and made me laugh, especially after the whole derision/lack of knowledge they seem to have for other works. "So why does the pirate have a raven?"
