Pirates

So i am not one for pirating but what if a game is recieving negative feedback but it is from a series you love but you don''t want to waste money on a pile of ass and there is no demo what do you do? if you pirate it then are like ok swag i love it and buy it would that be such a bad thing?

Watch a "lets play" video on Youtube, read critic reviews, IGN reviews, Read forums about the game.
Then you decide what to do.

Or pirate it - it's not like we give a shit - just don't come to the forum crying about how the pirated copy broke your machine.

Imo using a pirated version of a game u intend to buy for demo purposes, should be ok, I know alot of people that do this, but yeah like he said, dont cry to us about your torrented game

I don't think its a wrong thing to do. You download a game, you play it and if you like it you buy it.
Also do it myself. If I really like it I buy it, if not, I delete it.
It would have been so much easier if the law in Belgium here wouldn't have forbidden video game stores to borrow games to customers a couple of years ago. :(

I don't care about moral speculation. I pay for games that I want to reward... and in those cases where I don't actually know whether I'll like the game (preorders and concepts) I still pay for them, because it's just more convenient and I have enough money.

If I know that a game is a pile of ass, I don't want to play it, so I have even less reason to pirate it than to buy it. There are always sales, so with a little patience, one can always get a game at what one will consider a reasonable price. If someone were to excuse their piracy with, "the game wasn't good enough to pay for", I'd call that bullshit rationalization. If a game is that bad, find a better one to play. There are only several million of the fuckers out there.

Special consideration may be made for people who don't have a lot of money or who are in countries that can't easily access content, but I'm not in a position to execute punishment upon anyone so it really doesn't matter either way.

I remember getting a pirated Just Cause 2, it was a "good" copy 'cos it supported mods and took less than 20 seconds to start.
But I ended up buying it for $10.00 USD since I wanted to join the beta multiplayer tests.

I'll pirate something if I want to try it out, and adequate documentation or other information isn't available on it. Or if I'm looking for something really obscure that isn't easily available elsewhere, or has been discontinued. If the software/movie/music is good, I'll usually end up buying it. Talented developers and artists need to be supported.

This thread is a nice counterpoint to the rampant groupthink that goes on here in regards to piracy. Obviously encouraging piracy of a videogame on a forum dedicated to discussing it makes little sense, but making a big deal out of banning pirates is a little silly. There are many ways those users could ban evade and come right back anyway.

I don't pirate games period. There's too much time involved to dedicate myself to a game I'm not sure I'm going to like enough to buy. I have pirated direct to dvd movies to see them before they are officially released, or in the case of Steven Seagal films where I know they'll be bad, but I don't know if they'll be so bad that I won't want to buy the DVD for my collection so I preview it. There are also rare and out of print B-rated horror films and soundtracks that go out of print that you can only find on tpb unfortunately, unless you want to pay through the nose to a collector on e-bay. For the longest time, the only way you could get the original Fright Night soundtrack (1985) was to download it, unless you wanted to pay $50 for a fake reproduction on ebay, or like $100 from a collector.

A few years back I only pirated games that had a cut German version, but nowadays I let other people gift such games to me on Steam and I give them the money.
