SPOILERS Preoder only dubstep gun early unlock

I read somewhere that if you preordered the game, you can get the dubstep gun much earlier then not preordered (preorder:Campaign Trail of Destruction side mission. Non-preorder:Hello Teacup primary)
and I want to know if that was a lie or not, and I can't test it since I own the preordered game.

The in-game Dubstep gun was not a preorder item. A lot of people got confused because the physical gun was a bonus with the wub wub edition, and thus the confusion started.

I can't speculate on the design decision behind it, but I do appreciate the fact that they'll let people enjoy the wubs without requiring them to play through a majority of the story first.

That actually bothers me. Things like the dubstep gun and piper outfit kind of ruin the surprise of getting/using them for the first time in missions. I think a better alternative would be just to have cheats so players can activate them early if they want.

Having said that, I do think that huge strides were made regarding better unlocks and rewards for side content when compared to the earlier SR games.

Obviously this is just guesswork on my part but my thought is that the original plan was for the dubstep gun to only be unlocked during the Girl That Hates the '50s but it was such a large part of the game's marketing that the decision was made to make it available almost immediately rather than near the end of the storyline.
