...as much as i am leaning toward playing this game...imma still wait on that pc patch Volition promised for Saints Row 2...i feel the first game already set its own origin without having to be rewritten, the second really showed just how distinct it is from GTA WITHOUT being GTA, by the third its just overall glorious wacky fun, but by the forth and onward...its GTA-ish with a LOT of mods...even tho its not GTA...idk but i do hope they have a good story laid out...otherwise it'll be Rage 2 just wandering the endless desert...

...cause in the words of Johnny Gat: "The Saints name used to mean more than body spray and some ass-tasting energy drink."
Boss: "Our brand's worth a shitload of money."
Johnny: "Is that what it's all about?"

Its already confirmed by SR youtubers that map looks amazing of course you don't have to believe them but cant see why they would lie about this one thing.

And I dont know how you somehow compared SR4 and GTA lol Even with mods they are just not similar.

I am just saying all this from what I have seen she somehow appears on my timeline everytime there is a drama in some random games fandom...

From Fighting games to Action games I guess she plays everything ? She is still trash I dont believe her
I genuinely have no idea how you got that idea, nor have I seen them say anything I would consider incorrect.

That's not really an indication on whether or not she is a trash person. I took a quick look at her TL and she was tweeting about GamerGate stuff, "focus groups", "Netflix Teen dramas", cancel culture. You know, the usual stuff for outrage culture internet people.

The story has the potential to be good, or terrible, but both are complete speculation; to me, the post reads as saying that people shouldn't be upset or worried about the direction of the game because it could possibly be good or well written.
The people who are upset and worried by and large want the game to be good, and are hoping to be proven wrong. The holier than thou attitude, and the degrading insults (especially in the comment section of the post) are completely unnecessary.

Disenfranchisement and scarcity based crime isn't an exclusively modern day dilemma, that can apply to many parts of the world and history and is an intrinsic part of the human condition. When I say topical, in my mind I am thinking of direct, pretentious allegory to a modern day issue that the writer is strongly trying to enforce a view on. Again, it could very well be well written, but I often find that the best writing comes from creators who aren't insistent on the relevancy of their fiction, and instead let it stand for itself as a quality piece of media.

When they talk about paying off college via starting a criminal empire, that comes across to people as an indicator that the game is going to heavily emphasize the millennial hipster culture (for lack of a better term, feel free to mention one), that a lot of people find incredibly irritating and idiotic. If you are a known gangster or leading member of a criminal empire, the idea that you would still have the same concerns and somehow would be allowed into a university is a bit ludicrous. There is a difference between an educated criminal, or a undercover, disguised or corrupt way for a criminal to get a specific type of education, and the idea of a character who looks like they pretend to be a teenager on a disney channel show having the "relatable" issues of college debt whilst they murder and run a drug running syndicate.

None of this really matters, because I basically have the same concerns and thoughts, but what I took issue with is how toxic that post was, when it's essentially just hoping for the best.
I guess you're right. In the end we can't really discuss the story until we've experienced it.
Although I do personally believe that whether a story is explicitly relevant to contemporary issues or not, this has no bearings on the quality of the writing. A few examples I can give off the top of my head would be 1984, Dr. Strangelove and more recently Breaking Bad.
To the point of the discrepancy when it comes to realism between the characters motivations and the Marshall's sci-fi equipment: My point was not realism, but relevancy, and sci-fi is incredibly relevant. The biggest move franchise, the MCU, leans heavily on the sci-fi side. It's not realistic for people to build a criminal empire for paying of student debts. They'd do small crimes at best. But it is relevant that student debt is almost impossible to pay off with legitimate means unless you get incredibly lucky.
But it is realistic for people with money problems to get into crime. And it is realistic for some of these to stay in the crime business if they realise that it's more lucrative or more enjoyable to them than whatever they were doing before.
Even if we ignore the issue of realism there is still a clash of visuals and thematics between this faction and the rest of the world.
Saints Row is a videogame and was never realistic. Kevin is a popular DJ and if I am not wrong works for or worked for IDOLS the gang that show themselves everywhere, wearing all bright colors and called IDOLS also I am guessing they control certain parts of the city so they are not hidden and are known to people so no I dont agree Kevin looks perfect okay maybe he should wear a shirt but still
"Saints Row is a videogame and was never realistic" Unless you're specifically talking about the gameplay, this is objectively wrong. Most games have unrealistic gameplay in order for them to be fun, this doesn't mean their stories have to be unrealistic. Kevin's character is badly written, and the IDOLS may very well have the same problem.
At least it's not as bad as World War Z.

Okay I forgot that you already played the game and know the characters...

And man in SR2 breaking into a nuclear power plant only with 1 person to get toxic waste to give Maeros tattoo artist so he can give him a toxic waste tattoo (which somehow did harm after tattoo was finished lol ) was SUCH A REALISTIC STORY MOMENT !!!!

SR2 is full of unrealistic stuff in its gameplay and story which is fine because thats what Saints Row is and always will be...

You older SR fans act like dumb and forget about all the weird shit SR1-2 had. Face it those games were almost same as SR3 with their unrealistic gameplay and story. SR3 had the style to match the crazy story, gameplay while SR1 - 2 was trying to be GTA with their visual style.

Thank God Volition listened the majority and not loud minority when making the game.

Regarding Kevin, we know literally nothing about him yet. Aside from the fact that he was once part of the Idols, is shirtless, and likes to cook. Now, am I expecting cooking to be in the game wherein Kevin gives us food to increase our stats? No. But we can’t make an accurate assessment just from what we see here.

The map? I honestly think if they give us plenty to do, I don’t care if it’s small or huge. An endless expanse of desert or field with nothing to do is just wasted space.

God, Volition really needs to get with the program. I tweeted them about when they’d show more content and they were mum about it.
