SPOILERS Saints Row (2022) official info

I'd be lying if I said that my anticipation for this game's release is entirely positive, but I guess that's technically a good thing.

If they'd created something that was essentially just Saints Row 2, but more up to date, I don't think I'd be hyped at all, and I definitely wouldn't need to see any advertisements for it. Cos I'd already know exactly what I'm getting.

Yeah I'd enjoy it, but I wouldn't really be invested in grinding out the activities, or surprised by anything in the story. Cos it's been done, if I wanted to play something like Saints Row 2, I'd just play Saints Row 2.

That's what got me intrigued by SRTT. New city, new Saints, none standard gang styles, it was different. Yes we may have lost some classic things like Septic Avenger and little details such as being able to chant with the cheerleaders, but we gained so much new stuff in its place. VTOL jets, Saints themed Towers that serve as Cribs, Tank Mayhem, Professor Genki... The list goes on.

Side Note:
I hated Kinzie's attitude towards Playa's actions, but I didn't hate Kinzie. It created a unique dialogue that didn't previously exist. I mean, who in their right mind would dare question the badass leader of the 3rd Street Saints? Everyone else would just follow orders and agree with Playa's decisions.

So yes, I'm nervous about this new direction, but I'm at least going to give it a chance and see what this game really has to offer before I decide where I stand on the future of Saints Row.
Sorry but, I personally couldn't disagree more with your SR3 part, the VTOLs and everything related to STAG was way too futuristic for me, the Saints tower were a fucking eyesore to me (every time I played the game, I didn't upgrade the buildings or just removed them with sandbox+) on top of being a constant reminder that the Saints are now controlling a media empire. On top of being boring it just doesn't make any sense to be playing as a celebrity. All I need is a purple car, a purple shirt or hoodie and a nice penthouse or apartment. Professor Genki and everything related to him was just too over the top, I get it was supposed to parody those weird over the top Asian TV shows, and that was supposed to be the FUZZ successor since it was also a parody of a real life TV show, but FUZZ was oozing style and charisma while Genki's show's was bland. Tanks were cool tho, and had amazing crushing mechanics (I remember being completely blown away by them, after coming out of the GTA 3D era where tanks only made vehicles explode on contact). This also was baffling to me that Volition added the national guard in their game but didn't use it and instead created yet another different faction that was completely out of place to serve as the final bad guys, STAG should've just been the national guard, it would have made way more sense. As you said too, we lost much of the little details, that's the way you can immerse yourself in a world, as much as I love SR3 I could never immerse myself in its world like I could in SR2.

We can agree on the fact that remaking SR2 1 to 1 also wasn't a good idea, first because the patch is coming with already constitutes an updated version in and of itself, second because it seems like most of Volition now is somewhat ashamed of/disgusted with SR2, at the very least it's clear that's not the style of game they want to work on. It would have been very difficult for them to build this remake with love.

As I've said before, Volition should just rid themselves of the Saints Row name and fully go in the direction they want to go, unrestricted by this franchise and what people expect from it.
Because at the end of the day being a fucking social media influencer is as far detached from Saints Row as being the fucking president. And fuck those fucking flying bikes too, goddamn it!

I can respect that.

And you're definitely right about SRTT's removal of idol interactions being less immersive.

But I started with SR2 since I was originally on PlayStation only. Then backtracked to SR, then of course I was disappointed with how much they changed and cut out in SRTT.

Killing off Gat, abandoning the huge plotline with Dex, and cutting out all previous Saints Row characters that meant so much to the series.

But I wasn't about to quit the series altogether. It may have been different, but I was prepared to see it through. Even all the way to the end of Gat Outta Hell... Which I will refrain from commenting on.

So if this is where they're taking the series reboot, then I'm buying a plane ticket to Santo Ileso, and won't be returning until the city is mine.

Yeah, I went up to that point too, I even thought that GooH was much better than SR4 on many aspects. Couldn't bring myself to play AoM tho, that game just really didn't appeal to me for many reasons.

I'm just kinda salty because that fucking brick wall really looked like some SR1 shit, and because this game could have been so much more if it hadn't been called Saints Row.
I wish Volition the best, but I also wish they would realize that they should let the SR franchise die.

Same here. I mean, I love the Saints Row franchise, but I’m afraid they shot themselves in the foot by saying this game was a new Saints Row rather than a brand new IP. This game looks somewhat decent on its own merit, and if they had said that it borrows heavily from other IPs including Saints Row such as gangs and customization, and actually shown it, I would’ve bought it. In fact, I think most of the hate its getting now wouldn’t even exist.

Instead they’re doing these expecting the name alone to carry the game along. When a lot of people are like, ‘This ain’t it, boss.’

Probably all of this commotion comes from misunderstanding on how a company [video-game-developer] transforming them self along with the changing of staffs that used to worked with them. I noticed that there was Steve Jaros that's the brain behind the first four installment, and he's gone then everything's change.

And yeah, to quote this --
For better or worse, this is the game that Volition wanted to make.
Yeah, it surely is. And not only what they wanted to make -- it is what they can because obviously they're totally different team with unalike thinking now.

And honestly, I'd rather they make what they want. Whether it's the gangsta game we wanted or not, from watching the trailer I can see they obviously enjoyed crafting the thing.

Besides, at the end of the day, they are the creators. They own the IP. They can do whatever they want to it, and it's within their right.

I feel mostly neutral to it really. The first Saints game I played though was Saints Row 4 so I was late to all of this, and I got it purely because it was so insane and over the top with all of the sci-fi influences it had. I got it on PS3, then got an average PC partly so I could play the game modded (Steam version), then got Agents of Mayhem, then SRTT Remastered. After doing that I realised that no Saints Row game is going to appeal to me as much as 4 I don't think. The Boss in that game still feels like my main Saints Row character, and after watching the latest video explaining and showing some of this game, my eventual answer was to get the original Saints Row 3 and 4 on GOG. There's just something about the style, even the graphical style of 4 especially that I don't think they'll ever repeat or improve upon properly for me personally and I find that sad.

For instance : while the lighting effects of Saints Row 4 clearly aren't the most advanced, for me it resulted in giving the Boss a type of style that I really like the look of. And looking at SRTT Remastered it seems to have gone backwards, where the lighting, textures, or both result in the Boss looking really off for me at times. I suspect this next game will bring the same problem, and that also reminds me of ME: Andromeda : I really liked that game (unlike many others from what I've seen) and it had some of the most amazing environments but I always struggled getting settled with my character.

Maybe this is an industry thing because Ubisoft have done the same thing for me but kind of to the extreme. They make environments that I think are easily some of the best I've ever seen in gaming, I could spend hour after hour free roaming in their games and love it, but even there it's like they spend 95%+ of the time making all of that then hardly any time making the character models anywhere near as good. It's odd and at times it totally breaks immersion for me.

Anyway both Saints games I just got are currently on sale so I got them for just under £10. I'm still playing some other games at the moment but hopefully soon it's time to get back to Saints Row 4 and my original Boss.

Oh, and a Saints Row game without Kinzie will always be hard for me to adjust to. She was at times really funny and weird and I doubt any of these new characters will come close to replacing her. In fact I'll just state it as truth : nobody is replacing Kinzie for me. But that's just my own opinion and I hope they do well with the new game and surprise some of us with what it eventually has.

I'm on the boat of "Marketing team messed up" here, telling more than showing, especially with it only being half a year away for EGS users and a closed-doors, nothing-but-gameplay demo double the length of the trailer we got existing but not being publically shown.

Still, remaining optimistic, even if it does turn out like Watch Dogs 2 where the storyline and gameplay are at sharp odds with each other.
