So about "that" cutscene

We could have one game which was a down to earth cop/crime sandbox, with the Saints now cops working in Stilwater, perhaps 'the Boss' becoming an undercover agent a la Sleeping Dogs. And another game which is a wild space opera superhero sandbox.
So the boss was Troy all along? :)

So my Boss was in Hell the whole time? Then who was that person running around being called 'Boss' in the first place? His/her identical twin? A clone?
Magic, perhaps? xD

I've been for a soft reboot for a while. It'd allow them to rethink the franchise over a little without being forced to go crazier and crazier. Personally, I'd like to start over as a nobody in Stillwater with the polished controls of Saints Row Third and IV. I'm not sure about Angel wings, and Super powers. They kind of make everything feel stupid, but at the same time are so damn fun!!!! I thought I'd hate Gat outta Hell, but I freaking loved it. Flying was crazy addictive. Maybe........we could choose between a normal human, having super powers or having Angel wings. Not much of the gameplay ever requires any specific power set anyways. Volition could allow us to choose our new origin. You could be a homeless person, a fallen angel, or a radiated super hero. Whats the difference between throwing fire balls, or hurling grenades? Each person could easily have a similar ability. I prefer Saints Row The Third, but I also can't deny how fun IV was. This would restore balance, without gutting the insanity of SR IV.

That actually makes sense considering the fact that we don't really know anything about the Boss aside from a couple hints Volition put in SR3 and SR4. So he\she could've be an Ultor guinea pig for all we know. By the way your story concept reminds me a bit of this canceled Midway game that had a similar concept of an open world game where you can create your own character and have a access to a set of customizable of super-powers, good ole fashion guns and melee weapons or a mix of both.
If they keep the powers for SR5 than the overall tone of the game should be something similar to say Crackdown, Destroy all Humans or Infamous. As in a serious story with a mix of comedic relief or the occasional absurd moment. which could potentially make both sets of fans happy without taking an oversized dildo to vehicles, city design, NPC variety, story, characters and customization.

That's it. Give it title "Saints Row: The Beginning" which basically a huge combination of serious remake of SR1 and SR2.

Sell it for 80 bucks and I'd still buy it.

I would really like to have the earth being restored or the reboot being started from SR3 Even the one about early days would work. I also really hope that Volition will continue with the current visual style, it's really awesome and suits the series very well (a semi Street Fighter-not-so-realistic-but-not-cartoonish kind of stuff).

Anybody think that this ending is the one that Volition is going to use for SR5? (It's the ending shown at 21:06).
In my opinion it makes sense. The cutscene could have easily taken place a few years before SR1. It could also hint at how Troy met Johnny or why he may have joined the Saints (Perhaps he wasn't pleased with the SPD's incompetence). It also seems like Kinzie and Matt may have at one point worked for another unnamed law enforcement agency before joining the FBI and Syndicate.
So if they do choose this ending it's very likely that it could take place in an alternate version of the SR Timeline where the events of the games were heavily altered. (Perhaps in this reality Dex succeeded in assassinating Gryphon and perhaps even Dane, STAG could potentially still be in power, many of the Saint lieutenants that died in the previous games could be alive and well etc). It's also very likely that we could see an SR game more in-line to SR2-SR3 in 2016.
personally, i like sr4. i hope with 5 it still keeps the sci-fi stuff. but, maybe a time travel plot that makes it in the style of sr2... (though....super powers should be optional, not thrown away) but actually, they could be thrown in an alternate, dystopian stillwater where dex becomes the new emperor of the zyn (with help from satan after being humiliated by johnny gat), and conquers earth much earlier than the zyn did in the prime timeline. and the new capital? stilwater. and the boss has to find a way to rewite history and kill dex.
