Steam account bound

Then they have to spend all the extra resources to try and fix "security breeches" when anything under an 11-character password is easily hacked... heh.

You might be misunderstanding me. (or maybe I'm misunderstanding you!) Wouldn't allowing more characters to be used in passwords reduce the number of hacked accounts? Not likely by very much, but for those whose accounts would otherwise be hacked it certainly makes a big difference.

I think he was agreeing. Anyway, from what i understand, people tend to give a few (lame) excuses for having bad password restrictions. One is that they want it to be easy to enter passwords on mobile devices, and that's probably what's going on for the THQ stuff. Although that doesn't explain why it doesn't tell you that. Considering how quick it is to crack passwords these days, it's pretty irresponsible to require short or simple passwords.

At least THQ/SR3 accounts aren't particularly valuable, right, unlike a bank account or something? (Oh wait, banks often have some of the worst software, security, and password requirements.)

What if it's a Volition developer's account? They may have some kind of admin functions or something.

Also yeah, I thought he was saying "But then they have to...", hence my confusion.

Yeah, I was agreeing with you. It's been proven that anything under an 11-character password is easily hackable with the right tools. By limiting said characters to alpha-numeric just exacerbates the problem with hacking (I spent over five years as a systems administrator for a local, albeit small, ISP here in my area).

To be fair, limiting to alphanumeric only doesn't change much. Most people use '123password' or something similar anyways
