Steam workshop now supporting paid mods

So. Valve finds a way to get paid without doing anything. I know for past few years Valve has only cared about money but i didn't expect that they have the nerve to start this kind of shit. They saw how much money they could suck from the thousands of mods that are downloaded for skyrim everyday.

I would've been okay with this if it was just a tipjar kind of thing. Pay what you want to support modders if you'd like. But giving the modders the ability to charge whatever they want is dumb, and the cut they get from what they charge isn't even that big either, so it's pointless.

Doesn't this seem just a little pointless though? I mean, how many games actually have mod tools, or allow modding? Compared to the number that don't, it will be tiny. Although, to be fair, Skyrim is a big one.

Unless.....valve are going to "encourage" developers to release mod tools. "Nice game, it would be a shame if it was removed from steam. I think that you think about releasing the tools you used to make the game. Know what I mean?"

War Raichu, who do you mean by "the cut they get"? If you mean valve, 30% is 30%, the amount will add up, especially with popular mods(or the sheer number of mods sold).

I wonder what effect this will have on Nexusmods.

Valve is keeping 75% of the value they are charging for their mods, leaving the modder only 25% and the publisher of the game gets nothing.

I could happily go for this kind of arrangement, but I fear it would still be Valve & the publisher taking the lion's share of the money...

From the terms and what they've said, it looks like this cut percentage is at least partially down to the publisher too - so I expect the publisher is getting something for each mod sold for their game.

Yeah, Valve, devs and publisher have their own share of the 75% while the modder(s) get 25%. On top of that, the modders only get paid once there end of the share exceeds $100. This 25% is also split among modders depending on how many worked on it.

That all said, Valve is also removing donations links if a workshop addon has one!

It's safe to say that in a few days the Steam forums and Youtube will look like this
Also as I said in my earlier post Valve is opening themselves up to a mountain of lawsuits the moment someone tries to monetize a Vaas player-model or Vault Hunter on the Gmod Workshop. Mind you some of the companies that could bring Valve to court if such a thing were to happen would be ahem Ubisoft, Sega, Activision, Square Enix, Capcom, Take-Two, Rockstar, EA and Deep Silver to name a few.

Brace yourselves.

Early Access Mods incoming.

On a serious note, I do not support this.
I was just about to say that. Without any kind of quality control it's definately going to happen and there will be modders that abandon mods that are broken or don't finish them in the first place and still ask money for it.
