I bought it on the day it came out, after assuring it was optimised (preorders are sketchy). And I was surprised how silly it is. The game is barraged with satire and funny quips and commentary, it barely feels serious, but has the attention to realistic detail which can only be achieved by spending more money on its development than any other entertainment product in history. The skippy reference really got to me. Never played the game before, and it runs 60 fps on max for me, which is nice. I like the customisation it has available, for people and cars (mostly online), but its not as in depth or as good as Saints Row currently. No body customisation, but since online is a developable platform it could happen in the future. Its fantastic they made an incredibly in depth editor for the game (and apparently it has some great resources for sandbox free roaming too), although I haven't been able to try it yet.
I don't like some of the adult or sexist content, but its curious to see some of it as I get that Rockstar are deliberately mentioning stereotypes and bringing them to the extreme to make commentary about society (ala the torture scene), but its still tiresome with the crudeness, swearing, and sexist remarks berating your ear. Trevor is tiresome in particular, but he has some great set piece missions, which is basically my main positive about him.
Its entertaining that despite all those bogus discussions about how gta is ultra serious, the game seriously wants to make you laugh. The lovechild of apple, google and Facebook, Live invader, who the eco of is bent on world domination, and will deport his workers to a third world country if their don't smile enough or aren't good at air guitar. If what was said in tabloids was actually true, and the papparazi rumours were actually real and normal, the strange old couple who are obsessed with celebrity garbage, monkeys and ufos at one point when your awful tea bagging son leaves you on a curb, an entertaining Stockholm syndrome scenario, with Trevor's long sought after love, a Triad mistaking Michael for Trevor's boyfriend, Michaels family, its all ridiculous and over the top! Its more light hearted than GTA 4, but even that game had some ridiculous humour, heck a comedy club.
I just wish it wasn't so childish at times, but Im enjoying myself so far. It makes me appreciate Saints Row more too, including its music selection.
