This is bugging me

Hi everyone, I'm new. I just registered because something has been annoying me for a while and I must ask if there's something that can be done.

The hair in Saints Row IV. Is it normal that a lot of hair styles have that issue that they appear transparent from certain angles? Or like they are not properly attached to the head? It really takes me out of the game whenever a cutscene starts, that shows my character from certain angles, and there are gaping holes in his hair. Or looking like a badly attached wig. Sometimes even certain lighting conditions cause parts of the hair to go transparent.

So, is there something that can be done, other than choosing hairstyles that don't have obvious transparency issues? Did someone already make a hair mod that fixes it?

It's been a problem since SR3, it's not caused by mods. My Boss has the "Made Man" hairstyle and it suffers pretty badly from this.

I never had this problem. But my Boss always had long hair, so I don't know how short hair work.

I never noticed that this was already an issue in Saints Row The Third. I didn't really try a lot of hair styles back then. For my guy I always either had the Sarge or Clean Cut, and for my Girl Teen Dream it's called I think, and the Loose Pony. With the Loose Pony I only noticed that the hair strands would clip into the forehead all the time. But nothing more.

But now in SRIV, I first really noticed it with the Loose Pony, that didn't seem to suffer from these issues in SR3. And it's even worse with the Boy Cut. Most of the time, when you see the character's head from the side, it really looks like the hair line isn't attached to the head. And when you get to an angle where you see the hair from below, you can actually see through it.

I've tried all the hair styles mentioned here, I've even tried messing around with the forehead sliders. I have not managed to replicate what you've encountered.

Now, I'm no expert, but from the looks of it, the issue isn't with the game, it's with either your Graphics drivers or your Graphics card itself. It's not uncommon for bad/corrupted drivers or a dying card to cause random textures to not render; sometimes it's very obvious, sometimes it's very subtle.

Either way, the first thing you should try is updating your graphics drivers.

Updated my Graphics card just now. Even did a clean install by uninstalling everything with a proper Drive Cleaner. The issue still remains. Here are a couple more screens with the Boy Cut. It's especially apparent with a red background. In this case, the red tinted windows of Zinyak's ship.

Now, I remember I saw some little similar bug with lop sided hairstyle in SR3. But it was so small that I never cared about that. and looking to screenshots I can't find it.

I've had this happen with some games before, particularly with hairs and the like.. I think it's a weird thing when antialisasing and asf mix. Try adjusting the level of antialiasing first, and then 'filtering' as they term it in the options menu. It's very likely you'll have to turn up or off antialiasing to get rid of it.. I never had this issue in SR4 but I have in other games and that tends to be the only real solution. (Thankfully AA is becoming less and less needed as resolutions keep cranking up so high that jagged edges are only visible when they move). So yeah, again, try fiddling with the levels of both, and see if it helps.

On the plus side, it's a very minor issue compared to say the whole hair just not rendering. :p
