Troubleshooting FAQ / Common Issues

Just putting this here: to fix the "homies won't shoot" problem, what I do is head to the penthouse, select "The Belgian Problem" from my replays, and AFTER THE CUTSCENE, cancel the mission. After that, the homies work as advertised. I have no idea WHY this works, but I suspect it's related to the fact that they work in-mission by default. I would guess that starting a mission changes some flag related to NPC behavior and canceling out "forgets" to set it back. On a side note, canceling "The Belgian Problem" on your first playthrough (not on replays, IIRC) before you get in the car leaves the car in place, and you can add it to your garage; I don't know why, but I have a hunch that is related to this problem in some way.

The 45 Sheperd handguns do not alternate between hands when firing
Not sure how big an issue this is for anyone but I found that by changing the refire values as follows allows for alternate firing animation. Not perfect but it is improved and I am sure tweaking them further will get it near perfect. If interested here is what I changed;

In weapon_upgrades.xtbl I changed - "Pistol-GangLvl2" the value from 300 to 200 in this entry <Time_Management><Refire_Delay>200</Refire_Delay></Time_Management>

In weapons.xtbl I changed -"Pistol-Gang" the values from 600 to 300 in this entry <Time_Management><Refire_Delay>300</Refire_Delay><npc_refire_delay><min>300</min><max>1200</max>

I am using Shitface's excellent Weapon Re-Balance Mod

Of course create a backup of your originals.

I' just discovered this sticky.
Great post.
In process of slowly and over time, going thru it. If I see something I think you might add I'll comment or send a PM in future rather than clutter
this thread overly much.

In the meantime noticed this:
Black screen or crash after the AMD logo, copyright notice, or difficulty selection
solution: This is sometimes fixed by verifying the game cache files. Also try running the game in a window. If that doesn't help, make sure your video drivers and motherboard chipset drivers are current. If that doesn't help, i have no idea.

I may have missed it elsewhere in the FAQ so far so forgive me if I did .
I spend a lot of time on Steam and Volition's board and have noted MANY posts with similar description of the above .
In most cases I've seen (not all for sure) it was because the poster was using a system below the minimum specs as stated
on Volition's board, usually a user of a video card that just is not up to the task.
So maybe add something along those lines and a link to Volition's forum post listing the min and RECOMMENDED system.
Sadly, STEAM has the MINIMUM required listed on the sales page. A very sad thing.

Maybe include a link to passmarks site it seems there is a whole generation of people incapable of figuring out what their hardware is
in relation to stated specs posted by software companies.
http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/index.php

With that info, they have a chance to make a decision that may be right when comparing intentionally confusing VId Card part numbers.

EDIT: Read rest of Graphics section.
In my gaming experience (since the 80's) with PC's of various capacity I'd
have to say the first 4 or so symptoms listed are usually associated with
using a Video card that is not up to the minimum required OR a card that
has suffered a hardware fault due to stress. (heaT).
Also, of course the
inevitable driver issues that can occur . The other suggestions you list are also possibles.
But based on my experience, I'd point my unforgiving thumb at hardware limitations.

I suggest a link in that section to Volition's well stated min and RECOMENDED
specs and as I mentioned above, perhaps a link to a site like Passmark.

I believe you can. Drop the following xbtl file in your main game-directory where the exe is and you should get a 90 fov.

Is this your work? If so, then you should be creating a new thread for it in the release forum to go along with the other fov mods there like steve's fov mod and uzi's. Also, you should be attaching the file to the post itself and not linking it to a mediafire upload. If this is not your work, then we have a problem, as we do not allow uploading of other modders' work.

Link removed.

EDIT:
I took a look and the file you linked is missing all the new camera information and changes that were introduced with patch 3. Assuming that this is your work, it's going to need to be fixed and updated before you upload it anyway.

It is my work and it's back from when i played the game in the end of 2011.

I cannot be bothered to update it, however the statement that one cannot change the field-of-view is misleading and should be removed from this FAQ.

Agreed and done.

I installed the fix to the Brute Glitch, and i've restarted steam several times, but now my game just crashes.

That's an extremely outdated fix that won't work correctly with the current SRTT patch level. It would need to rebuilt using/updating the new asm files. I'm not sure who even put that up or what it does considering it's on mediafire instead of attached to the forum here...

EDIT:
For some weird reason it doesn't include an updated asm file. Bizzare. I'm poking around in the file now to see what's happening. Do you have any other mods installed btw? It may actually be conflicting with other mission related mods like mission replay.
