Unable to escape Zin ship

I'm playing re-elected on pc and when escaping the Zin ship when I hit or bump into something the ship I'm flying spirals out of control and I can no longer control it. It floats through the level and eventually falls out and just just falls out the world all together. What could be causing this and how can I fix it?
 
Depends on what controller you're using. Seems it doesn't use mouse to direct she ship any more, so if on PC - use wsad buttons. I' do not know about xbox or ps controllers though.
