After watching this fanmade movie trailer for Saints Row:
It made me really think...
Let's assume that tomorrow a Hollywood studio would get the rights and greenlights a live action movie based off of Saints Row. We all know that there hasn't been a good or great video game adaptation to the silver screen yet (Mortal Kombat was the best made thus far, and it was decent at best), and considering there's been major film releases of everything from Alone in the Dark to Wing Commander and there are planned film adaptations of Metal Gear Solid, Need for Speed and Angry birds (no shit, look it up) amongst others to be made and/or released in next few years, it is not outside the realm of possibilities that a film adaptation of the SR series would be made, especially with how popular it is.
So, let's cast, write, hire the director and shoot this fucker. How would you do it? Who would you cast? What would you name The "Player"? Which game would you base the film off of? Who would get to direct? Which direction would the film be in (dramatic, dark, over-the-top, comedic, etc.)? Would you watch it? Do you think it would do well? What would you NOT have done to it/in it? Which studio do you think would try to take on the task of Adapting Saints Row? Feel free to put as much or as little input on the subject as you want.
Now as for me, I honestly haven't thought about the concept past a couple of areas. I'll post more when I get my thoughts gathered on the concept. My initial thoughts on casting, however, is pretty easy to talk about:
The "Player" is pretty open-ended; (s)he could literally be anyone, played by any actor, given any name; so it would be best to make a character that's relatable to start out, but could still be believable as a gang leader later on.
Julius could very well be played by Keith David, if not than Samuel L. Jackson could play him as well.
Daniel Dae Kim should play Johnny Gat, no exceptions.
If Michael Clarke Duncan was still among us, he would've played a great Benjamin King on camera, otherwise Terry Crews, while voicing Ben quite well, wouldn't be my first choice for the live action role. I'd say someone like Ving Rhames would fit the role better.
Hector Lopez (the leader of Los Carnales in SR1, in case you forgot) could and should be played by Machete himself, Danny Trejo.
If the SR2 gangs were involved in the movie, or at least as a nod to SR2, Neil Patrick Harris could reprise his role as Veteran Child without any trouble.
Well, those are my intial thoughts, now I want to hear yours.
