    Definitely don't need to be at the ceiling, I'm pretty sure this has to do with timing of recently doing a DFA though, simply getting enough vertical height without recently having done one doesn't cause it.

    Do a normal DFA, either from a jump or using the abduction gun. Use the abduction gun to get yourself lots of vertical height (I assume you could wallrun up a building to cause the same thing, but I haven't tested). Try activating DFA, it sets off a nuke instead.Here's a video demonstration...

    You are safe, Steam downloads updates to a different directory now and doesn't directly overwrite game data until the download is complete.

    This is unlikely to happen as they were not the ones that developed the PC port. Removing DRM is a less complicated problem.

    First thing that comes to mind is a sane archive format with proper directory structure. Bonus points for priority-based content overriding with the ability to load any archives in a directory. If they can't support a directory structure in archives, they could at least make free floating files...

    That sounds like the original file is compressed. Provide -c to the pack and it should compress the data.

    The difficulty for adding new weapons is tied with having to duplicate the meshes for that weapon, generally you need to build a new str2_pc based on the original, named the same as your new weapon. Use my rocket pistol as an example. The new pistol is named Pistol-Gibbed.

    You only need to point UpdateASM to a directory with str2_pc files that have changed, it will leave files that are missing alone (and assume they have not been touched).
