Clip Editor

ya know Idol , fish tend to be smarter than that.

My apologies to any fish out there that I may have insulted by lumping them in with these dumb pirates.

It's true, we DO get too much fun out of this!

And always reminds me of an old BOFH quote. "It's like shooting fish in a barrel. With an elephant gun. Twice. In the head."

Although I think this is the first time one of them has gone and outright said "Yeah, how do you make it work with the pirate version?" instead of talking about the "disc version" like it's some alternative to Steam.

Idol and I get PMs asking us pretty directly, actually ;)

im a big fan of the clip editor. its all becuz of looking for the clip editor that i discovers idolninja's GoS mod pack to begin with, and breathed an entire new life into this game with the contributions of everyone's hard work.... just wanted to say that since this is my first post. but since im one of those less technically proficient ones who pretty much misses out on anything that says "add a fewe lines to this table," and i get to enjoy things that say drop in ur saints directory or even idol's lil GUI (which is extreme class, i must say,) i have no idea how i could go about fixing this, and hoped one of the geniuses here might end up with the answewr to my problem and hoping its something ridiculously simple.

i've accustomed myself to all the issues of the clip editor just fine. but there's one thing killing me that im not sure if anyone is aware of as i've seen no mention anywhere.
u cannot use the clip editor is ur character is bald. it doesn't work. when u go to edit, it records all the events just like always, however, if my character was bald (where u would pick none for hair at image as designed) its like it cant register "none." it defaults during playback to the default haircut for your RACE. so a black guy gets sarge, a white guy gets the default hairstyle etc.... its like when designing it, they put in whatever for all the hairstyles, but overlooked "none" as an actual hairstyle, and since its unfinished, yada, yada, yada, long story short..... im dying to setup some shots of my character and his bald head with the clip editor.

thats really the bottom line i guess, i could go on, but for now im just hoping someone can tell me if thats possible at all, or if its just no way. or even (here's hoping) some workaround or something that would allow the clip editor to register bald as a hairstyle or whatever the problem is.... thank you guys dearly for all ur work, this game is still my main goto game when i get off work simply becuz of u guy's stuff. thx again. ANY help or info or input is appreciated yall. thx..

That's really weird. I'm not sure why it would do that, but I think it could be worked around by simply making all clothing obscure the hair slot. That would effectively make your character bald no matter what hair style you choose. It would be quite a bit of work adding those flags to each entry in customization_items.xtbl though, so I'm curious if someone has a more elegant solution.

thanks for the reply idol, i appreciate it. so ok, so trying to grasp what ur saying then, (as someone not as technically proficient as u guys, so excuse me if i got it wrong,) but making the clothing obscure the hair slot would effectively make me bald, and that would mean adding flags to all the clothes, what if it were just one set of clothes? like what i pick one outfit, or whatever, and that would be the one that obscures the hair slot, and would make me bald? that way it would only mean flagging the entry for the pair of jeans i always wear? or just even for all the pieces of a specific outfit, which would only be like 5....? would that work or am i way off track in my understanding? cuz its definitely possible i am....

if this would work, i'd be so grateful at any help, like if u point me to the lines in the table, or what i would need to do, that would be awesome. i dont wanna bug ya and take too much of ur time, so whatever i'd have to do, i'm willing to do it, if u didn't mind with givin me the steps i would need to take.

like ok, i wear the workman boots always, so if that were flagged to obscure hair slot, i'd be bald in the clip editor? or any example, if it has to be on my head, then the diamond stud earrings at planet saints, or the fleur chain. while im at it, i guess i'll just list an outfit, if u need all the pieces.... along with what i mentioned, hiphop jeans i think they're called and the vip watch and thats it. i usually go shirtless. not sure if any of those clothing details help or matter, but just in case, i figured i'd list them.

seriously though, thanks for the input, even just from what u said makes it sound possible, which is farther than i've gotten in 2 months. thx again!!

Any piece of clothing would do. You wouldn't need to add it to each piece of clothing in an outfit. Just one piece of it. You would add this entry to the Obscured_slots in customization_items.xtbl for that particular item:

Code:
                            <Obscured_slot>
                                <Slot>head hair</Slot>
                            </Obscured_slot>

I don't know the name of the entry for the work boots though. Most of the entries in that table are not the same as their in-game name so it will be slightly difficult finding the exact clothing item that you want.

WOW. It worked. i cant believe it. dude, once i got an idea of how it was laid out, yup, added that line, (ended up using the jeans they were easier to find. i saw "saints jeans" and i said thats pretty self explanatory, fine i can wear those things, added the line, and for some reason, their reference to "saints jeans," was actually referring to the other ones, the hiphop jeans i think they're called, & thats what i wear anyway.) so right away i noticed it was working, but would it work in the clip editor?? yes. finally. u have no idea how grateful i am dude, i've been getting my armchair spielberg on with the clip editor, and my character has nice shiny bald head that i could never show. it was driving me crazy. dude u'll probably never know how awesome ur bit of help there was, i'm doin this project for nephew in the hospital, and i have his favorite celeb as a lookalike in the game, and been makin this little movie he seems to really like, but im a perfectionist, and i felt like the whole thing sucked cuz i couldnt show his head. dude it worked, thank you, sincerely.
