Yes, you should still rebuild the patch since it contains a ton of other stuff as well.

As it's a modification of the customization_items.xbl, it cause conflict with weapon mods.

Probably not. I find the whole concept of removing it to be kind of ridiculous.

Hey, I went through all the install instructions and did the standard co-op version but nothing has changed in my game, any one know why?

I can only imagine that it's because it's not installed correctly. Put patch_compressed.vpp_pc and patch_uncompressed.vpp_pc into the packfiles\pc\cache folder, overwriting the originals.
