Goodbye Volition

i think sr did start to pile on some really unnecessary rpg-adjacent gameplay stuff after sr2 (the leveling systems are the bane of my existence) but yeah i wouldn't call the health regen or enemy specialists being annoying an rpg thing either. also not having automatic health regen during battles was introduced in sriv wasn't it, even if it was based on health pickups instead

I really don't understand this whole RPG debacle? RPG literally stands for "Role Playing Game", not "Enemies Regen Health", or "Enemies Deflect Bullets".

It's a game where your character plays a role chosen by you. If the character has a preselected role that can not be changed, then it's not a "Role Playing Game", it's just a game with a fixed narrative.

I don't understand how the enemies having specific abilities or being given multiple options alongside the fixed narrative can classify the game as an RPG?

Either way you still have to defeat the gangs and take over the city, so the end is always the same, you're just given a little more freedom on which order you do everything to reach that ending.

An RPG let's you select the Character's background, skills, "ROLE", and various other things to make sure you get a unique playthrough every single time.

Saints Row just gives you a few tutorial missions, then dumps you in the open world with everything available to do from the get-go. It all leads to the same outcome, you just get to chose which order you do it all in.
They should explain about firepunch that skill too lol 😬😬 where did the idea come from i though that firepunch its a better version of killbane apocha fist

Im still okay with the skill perks in SRTT actually IV superpowers since you are in simulation and it makes sense

But in reboot recruit generic saints with skill its kinda silly right.. they have cooldown with it this is some shit rpg right there might agree and disagree in here they almost turn sr into rpg after all.. dont forget the barrier shield its also the replaceable of Human shield

Don't even get me started on the "Saints Backup" Skill Perk. All I want is to hang out with my crew, have them tag along on my shopping sprees, and yes, kill a few enemies, but I want to be able to do it on the fly, not as a perk. And I want them to stick around after the fight, not just leave when the action is over.

But they can add as many RPG "elements" as they want, but SR still can't be called an RPG game if your Character is on a fixed path throughout the campaign.

Which sucks because like Vinski said, that levelling system in SRTT & SRIV was so irritating. I couldn't customize my favorite vehicles or upgrade my cribs until after the campaign, because all my money was going into the levels and upgrades.

And I think we can all agree that Clusters should never return.

my problem with the leveling system isn't actually even the money aspect but rather the fact that you basically have two things blocking "character" progression, the cost and level requirements. basically you either progress "naturally" at the pace the devs want you to while you progress in the story, or you try to grind for not just one but two things, adding to what a miserable slog srtt especially already is. like money has so many uses in these games and having big meaningful money sinks (at least in theory) forces the player to actually make choices about how to spend it at any given time. it means they're setting goals for themselves to get everything they want which in turn incentivizes them to try out all the content available to them to earn more instead of just steamrolling through the story. but you could drop the actual leveling system - maybe you're just buying upgrades from npcs you meet over the story or something if it really needs the pacing - and it wouldn't really change anything beyond no longer giving a short cheap dopamine rush from seeing that LEVEL UP in the corner of the screen sometimes. it's all just so superficial and unnecessary, and as a cherry on top all this crap is in some random ugly menu within a menu to make it look sterile and uninspired too.

i much prefer the freer more action-oriented approach of the first two games where perks and upgrades were mostly rewards from completing challenges. Stilwater is essentially your horrible irradiated oyster in this regard, there's no waiting until the end of sr2 to reach some arbitrary level if you want to get that no fall damage perk - you just complete a test of skill and you're done. tbf the games don't really do a good job at actually informing the player about any of this though and people just kinda considered the activities unimportant "minigames" you're forced to complete just to progress in the story, but that's like a whole different topic.

Crazy,
Just sad news. Came back and logged on to pay my respects 😥
A great company with people that were really down to earth and cool to their fanbase - fired without warning
Here to hoping voliton gave their workers very generous severance pay
Now hoping for SR2 patch i hope they gonna give it to Plaion since DS told us they give the ip into them if i'm not wrong..

I’m gonna be honest. I don’t think we will ever see that patch releases.

I’m hoping for a full priced remake myself. But that too is a distant dream.
I always afraid if the remake that will end up like Re3r with worst Jill becoming toxic evahhh... but even if they either remake it or get pc patch code they should do it right not screw it like GTA DE..
