Did you modify your brutes rigs?

If you did, then unless you mod brutes anims they will just pick up weapons they usually won't but won't use them. My own experience is that I modded their rigs and I can throw them away as if they were gang grunts

I didn't install any other mods than these on my SR3 mods list (I linked it in my signature). Also, this happened only one time in my life (I mean Brute with Nocturne).

Looks to me like it just got stuck inside the brute's model, which happens occasionally. My Flickr account has a couple shots of an RPG embedded in my character's hand.
