Saints Row 2 vs Saints Row 3: A Fan Wishlist

Yeah totally agreed with all points and those brought up in his previous vid but it's hard to remain positive since all we have right now is speculation. I'm not a huge fan of GTA as of late, thought 4 was pretty boring, but they have two awesome trailers for gta5 and it looks and sounds spectacular. Just wish we could get something similar for sr4, cos right now I have no idea what we can expect, all I have heard is that it's going to be even more "wacky" than sr3 (just what I always wanted... not).

Saints Row 2 is a brilliant game. The story is grounded in reality, but allowed you to push things as weird as you wanted with how you made your character, clothing, vehicles, etc. It made me feel like a creative anarchist bringing my own insane style into it rather than having the wacky forced on me. The open world was also so chock full of interesting things to do and secrets to find that it often distracted you (in a good way) from doing the main story.

I enjoyed this guy's previous video, but towards the end of it, he kinda devolved into bitching and moaning (such as his feelings on the Penthouse Pack). Just my opinion, though. Hopefully Volition actually pays attention to stuff like this now that they have the THQ monkey off their back.

EDIT: Watching the new video now, I totally agree that they should combine the food/drink and grenade slots for SR4. Maybe have two d-pad slots dedicated to grenades (so you can have both grenades and molotovs) and two dedicated to food/drink. Or hell, have all the slots dedicated to food/drink and a separate slot on the hud dedicated to grenades, since it wouldn't be necessary to select it because it would have a dedicated button anyway

also, holy fuck is he right about the missed opportunity of Fight Club. I got excited for a potential wrestling activity during the lead up to release, but man, I never realized how perfect the setup was until now.

and he complains at the end about all the content being cut, but I guarantee they had to cut it because the consoles (aka the 360) couldn't handle it either because of memory or disk space.

I have heard directly from someone at Volition that cut content was almost solely due to time and money constraints due to an accelerated schedule and cut staff. It wasn't console limitations at all.

I guess that's not too surprising either. Whatever the case, I doubt it was something Volition wanted to do, but this guy seems to feel like Volition did it on purpose.

Hopefully Koch Media doesn't hold back and lets Volition do their thing, then.

Every time I watch any SR2 video I can almost hear my inner child crying - I can barely play it due to such poor PC optimization/porting. As for the features that didn't make it to SR3, I don't exactly miss house customization or that rhythm game. What I miss very much are those interactive interiors (liqour stores - grabbing a six pack of beer and carrying it over a beach was so cool), FUZZ, races, stronghold missions, pedestrians variety.

You just explained the thoughts of the crowd on the official SR forums.

However, I think SR2 is better than SR3, and I think it's quite stupid that volition didn't stick to the old character system and rather made a different mesh for every NPC, I'm not 100% sure, but I think it spares more time, plus it gives more variety.
The variety was something that really made SR2 a legendary game to me, on every step you see a different character walking and at every meter driven you see a different car (variant). Also counts for enemy gangs.

Volition is on record stating that the reason they changed this was so that they could get more npcs onscreen at once resulting in huge battles rather than being stuck with 10-12 like in SR2.

He's sort of wrong about the sex minigame being cut- when you do a co-op escort mission, player two does that minigame while player one drives the car. There's still no reason to leave it out of single player though. Overall, it was a decent video and I agreed with all of his other points. Like others have pointed out, the last few minutes were pretty painful to watch as this guy does his best impression of the very unfunny "Angry Video Game Nerd" character.
