Saints Row 2 vs Saints Row 3: A Fan Wishlist

He's sort of wrong about the sex minigame being cut- when you do a co-op escort mission, player two does that minigame while player one drives the car. There's still no reason to leave it out of single player though. Overall, it was a decent video and I agreed with all of his other points. Like others have pointed out, the last few minutes were pretty painful to watch as this guy does his best impression of the very unfunny "Angry Video Game Nerd" character.

You missed his point. The pimping minigame gave the open world extra flavor since these were hidden at gas stations, strip clubs, etc. It made the open world more interesting with extra things to find and do. You also got a special unlock for doing them, and the gameplay itself was a bit different than Escort since it was based on up to 10 levels that got progressively more difficult. SR2 had both Escort and this special minigame.

IdolNinja, didn't you once said to me that the SR: 3 engine is actually an updated engine from the previous SR's?

But putting that aside, I do think ( like many others ) that the reason that stuff wasn't in the game was because it had to be released fast cos THQ was in financial trouble. Still, I don't think they will add it into SR4, because that game was already half finished by the time they went to Deep Silver since THQ wanted to release as much DLC as they could to get more money.

Worst case scenario: You get the exact same game as SR: TT only with a new story, couple of new outfits and.. perhaps a better looking game. I think if Violition is going to focus on all the stuff that was missing in SR: TT and will be missing in IV, you won't see it untill SR: V, or in a large money's worth DLC.

Best case scenario? All the points said in the vid will be added. The Alien part is just one mission chain out of 6. You fight Aliens in a virtual world, and there are 2 other gangs in Steelport and to beat them, you have to sacrifice everything you have, build up, including your presidency. Then you go BACK to Stillwater where there are 3 new gangs who terrorise your old city and you fight back, SR2 style. Or bring Stillwater back through DLC ( Again, money's worth ) with the 3 mission chains and at the end, you are where you are supposed to be: At the head of the Third Street Saints. ( Fuck Ultor... they are still the bad guys in Red Faction and I would hate to think the leader of the Saints had anything to do with that... ) Plus of course all the fun mini-missions that made SR2 so much fun, and some new ones. Plus more character options. Different fighting styles, movement styles, perhaps choose a idle stance ( Smoke something when not moving after 10 seconds, play with your phone, read a paper, drink from a can ) and MOOOOORE assassination missions. Perhaps more Hitman style missions, waiting for a certain time of day ( presuming they will bring back the day cycles ) and having to wear certain clothes.

I didn't really care for the whores missions. It had more value when you did it during Co-op sessions. But sure, they could have kept it in the game.
Also thought of another use for the gas stations ( Kinda stolen from BurnOut: Paradise city really... ) The boost of a car. Don't make it infinite, but get more by doing stunts like airtime and driving on the wrong side of the road, and a insta-fill when you drive through a gas station. And I thought it could be funny, as they are going for the super-hero genre now, that they could put in a Good/Evil meter. If you choose bad endings in certain missions, the civilians will start to change as well, become more agressive, hostile, dress more agressive, and the city would become more dirty and damaged. But if you go the good side of the missions, the city will clean up, civilians will like you more and perhaps give you money or weapons that they can leave at your shrine that you can make. =P

I do agree that I miss the gangsta style from Saints Row 1 and 2. I miss the more darker missions, like when Carlos got killed. Or Aisha. Or when you went and saved Johnny in the hospital. It just added more motivation to keep on playing. And I do agree that Shaundi needs to pull that dildo bat out of her ass and stop acting like a stuck up bitch. xD

But still, I do have faith that even if the new SR won't be what we expect, we'll still have tons of fun in the game and won't regret buying it.

( PS: As for the mission where you had to drive with the tiger, it did fit in the game if the guy who made the vid payed some attention. The boss is affraid of tigers, so to let the boss overcome it, he/she had to drive around with the tiger. That is why the boss yells "Angel was right!" at the end, cos he/she obviously overcame his/her fear. And of course, those missions were the introduction to the mini-missions you could do. Though I do of course agree that it would have been better if Angel's mini-missions were the fight clubs. Fight Club was one of my faves missions anyway. IF they put it back in SR: IV, make it more then just 12 rounds total. Make it INFINITE!!! Or just like.. 24 for real rewards and then just for cash. )

Because of the superpowers and stuff you'll also get a completely new gameplay Saints Row has never ever got before. Activities and collectibles for example will be based on the super powers you have.

ADD:
Please dear god no, NO Stillwater that would ruin the story more than aliens.

Really? How come? I mean.. Stillwater is where it all began. It would only be like, logical to return there, since that is where their main base is. They need to defend it, or make sure no one messes shit up there. To be frank, I don't see how that ruins the story more then aliens...

So all the Saints grunts went to SteelPort you think?
Besides it would only be boring if they went back to Stillwater. 2 games having one map is enough, no matter if it's expanded or not. If they go back to Stillwater, they need to expand Stillwater much much more to keep the attention of lots of people.

Well, I don't know if you played SR1 and 2, but the difference between Stillwater from 1 compared to 2 was also rather big. Same thing could've happen. Same goes for Steelport. And since there was a shot of Washington ( Or at least the White House ) in the SR: IV poster, it could be that there will be a new city, or perhaps a new part in Steelport. And don't put all your faith on the new teaser, cos those images they've shown there could just be from the DLC they started to make over 6 months ago. When SR: IV will be released, they've had 1 year to change stuff, plus I believe they started on SR: IV not long after the release of SR: TT.

And of course they have left grunts in Stillwater, but that doesn't mean they couldn't go and check on it. All I'm saying is that if you have a large map in SR: IV existing of Steelport, Stillwater and perhaps a new city or addition, it could be so awesome.

And like IdolNinja said, the Enter the Dominatrix part will be a small part of the new Saints Row, wich leaves pleny of room for more. I hope Dex will return as the bad guy, as the Boss was going after him at the end of SR2.

Aside from the Saints's Row District being changed from Gang territory to the little Ultor Utopia, there hasn't been changed a lot. I can't tell it really, I used to have SR1, but it's a shame that I never really played it.

Now you're talking. I'd like to see more of the Saints world. :)

It's only a teaser indeed, with brief moments of gameplay, but we're getting closer to the release. I'd actually like to see more than only EtD footage by now.
I want play myself through the process of becoming president of the United States. That would be awesome.

I doubt this will happen, but wouldn't it be cool if the Steelport simulation glitched out and the city underneath would be part of Stilwater? Like Stilwater is the reality and Steelport is just a simulation run on top of it?

ever since Enter the Dominatrix was announced (and we briefly got the Zin billboards in SR3) and I heard the fan theory that SR3 was just a movie to explain all the weird changes to characters and whatnot, I developed my own "theory" that sorta combines the two. Namely, the entirety of SR3 was based in The Dominatrix simulation.

I mean, wouldn't that be an awesome way of fitting in two different cities? Steelport as the simulation with wackiness and superpowers, remastered Stilwater as the "more-grounded" real-life world for the part of the fanbase that dislikes the over-the-top-ness?
