Troubleshooting FAQ / Common Issues

That's an extremely outdated fix that won't work correctly with the current SRTT patch level. It would need to rebuilt using/updating the new asm files. I'm not sure who even put that up or what it does considering it's on mediafire instead of attached to the forum here...

EDIT:
For some weird reason it doesn't include an updated asm file. Bizzare. I'm poking around in the file now to see what's happening. Do you have any other mods installed btw? It may actually be conflicting with other mission related mods like mission replay.
Weird cause Corrodias linked me to this and told me to ctrl+f brute and dl the mod and boom its fixed... and no I don't have any mods installed

My mistake. I talked to Corr in group chat about that fix and it should work just fine. You are using the Steam version of the game, right?

Yeah, I got it to work. I had to walk away for about 3 minutes. But as long as I can play it the way it's meant to be played.

To clarify, the mod is a workaround that will make the brute die whether or not you shoot him; it will be incompatible with mods like Mission Replay that also change that mission file.

The reason it doesn't need an asm file to go with it is that i experimented with it until i got it to have the same regular and compressed size as the original, which is what the asm file tracks. No change in size means the asm doesn't need updating.

I always like solutions that don't need constant updating. Kudos. :)

Hello!

I used to scour these forums and other sites to find out why the game performed so poorly for my somewhat respectable hardware setup. I finally found a solution that may or may not help others, depending on your hardware and OS configurations. So I joined the forum here to share my success with the frame rate issues in this game.

My Setup is as follows;
CPU: i3-2120 @ stock 3.3GHz
OS: Windows XP SP3
RAM: 4GB DDR3
GPU: Nvidia GTX 550 Ti 1GB
DSP: Soundblaster X-Fi Titanium PCI-e

I used to barely manage 15-40 frames per second with all minimum settings (640x480 resolution, everything at either low or off).

Then I decided to try out something I didn't think would of helped at all. I turned on Hyper-threading in my system BIOS and WOW! Now I can play with scene detail at medium, shadows at high, and everything else turned on low at 1680 x 1050 plus 16x Anisotropic Filtering and 4x Anti-aliasing, and get 45-55 fps at 99% of all locations in the game.

Hyper-threading hurts the performance of many of my other games so it's a pain in the butt to switch it on and off whenever I want to play something other than Saints Row. But I can't argue with the HUGE performance difference.

I hope this helps somebody. :)

How do i customize the controls with a gamepad?
Doesn't look like that's possible.

You can by editing the control_schemes.xtbl. Its slow work by the trail-and-error method, unless you have an XBox 360 controller, but Im currently making some progress on it since I really hate the default bindings.

Some sounds are quiet (guns, cars)
explanation: This is usually related to surround sound audio. It's not because audio doesn't come out of the center speaker - that's by design - but rather just because the sounds really are quieter than they should be.
quote: "Oddly enough, when I switched it to a normal quality... the sound was only coming out of my right speaker. The gun sounds were still qiuet too." -- Live2Brightous
quote: "Not only gun sounds are low but car and foot steps as well are very low. I am running optical cabel to a 5.1 rcvr from the Real tek sound on my mb." -- Kottenr
quote: "I Use win 7 ultimate and have a normal stero headphone" -- thread link
solution: No solid solution is known at this time. Volition's sound testing team is investigating. Some variations of this bug can be worked around by setting your audio output to stereo, 2.0/2.1 in Windows. There's no setting for audio output in the game.

Hi all I just made an account here specifically to reply to this post, I had this issue also with my 5.1 speaker setup and changing to 2.1 didn't work for me, after searching the net for ages and trying everything suggested nothing worked for me, then I had an odd idea for some reason, I was looking at my sound setting by going to the volume icon in the taskbar>right click>sounds to check m playback device settings trying stuff when I remembered the tab in that window "communications" contains an option related to reducing aall other sounds when windows detects being on a telephone call on your PC, I recall I had it set to "reduce all other sounds by 80%" and thought to myself "hmm.. the quite gun and car sounds do seem like maybe around 80% quiter than I'd expect, but surely not?" just out of curiosity I set this option from "Reduce the volume of other sounds by 80%" to "do nothing" then I launched SR3 and guess what? My gun sounds are perfect! the quietness is gone.

I wanted to post this to suggest other people check and try this to see if it works for them as well and if it does I suggest Volition look into why the HELL windows thinks some of the sounds in SR3 are a phone call lol....

Anyway, this has finally resolved the issue for me, I hope it will work for someone else as well. :)

I've updated the post with that information. Thanks.

It seems the leech-lawyers have struck again, and now the m06_modal file for the Belgian Problem fix is unavailable. I don't think i have another copy. If anyone has it, please upload it here, and i'll link to it or put a copy of it myself in the relevant post.
