WHY AM I RUNNING AT 3FPS?!

How do I reinstall everything else? I mean, I'm definately not poor, but I'm not rich to be affording big-sized hard drives whenever I want.

If you're not sure about the basics then it's probably in your best interest to have a local professional do it, or find a local friend who understands these kind of things. If you start fucking around without knowing what you're doing then it will likely end in tears and missing data.

I just want to try anything I can before I go to the trouble wasting another $100 damn dollars on giving my computer to a pro. I'm fucking rich. :/

Well how big is your hard drive? Music/Movies/Mod files are probably the ONLY important things worth backing up. No need to save install files since they can be downloaded again. Worse case scenerio, Gmail offers 2gb of email space you can email yourself anything you dont wanna waste a disk on. Also DVD's hold 4GB of space as oppose to a CD which only holds 750mb get urself a few DVD's for the important things and you should be ok, windows 7 will do a basic driver install on most devices and then you can go and DL all the proper drivers after a fresh install

I have 683GB as to what it says in My Computer. So the plan: Back up my USER folder via DVDs. Restore my computer to factory settings and update drivers. Then re-install my USER folder with the DVDs. I'm so tempted to do this because I just love to see a fresh, sqeaky as hell clean OS/computer, with no errors or problems or fucking bullshit like I'm dealing with now.
PS If I'm backing up my USER folder. Shouldn't I also back up my Program files and Program files (x86) with it? I have important stuff in Program Files.

it depends on where or how the program saves its files. program files should generally be replaceable unless you have files saved into the programs directory? Your asking for trouble by copying your program directory, you could possibly have corrupt files in your program directory. Do you not have a Win7 disk? Format and fresh install is my personal choice but to each his own. You generally wouldnt "Backup" your user directory as you'd just be copy and pasting stuff from your "User Folder" not the actual directory. Also, each of your game saves may each be in a different location, I would figure all that out also unless you want to play through them all again.

heres a picture of the user folder, if you show hidden files you'll see appdata, you dont need to save that. Also to conserve space you may want to do a bit of spring cleaning, things you can just re-download or stuff you don't need instead of wasting disks.

I hate to tell you this, but several games store game saves in the hidden appdata folder including SR2 and GTA4.

It also has profile for Firefox in there.

In fact, appdata\roaming is one of the folders you'll want to pick through and save if you're backing up a computer (don't go worry so much about local)
It happens to have a lot of stuff you might miss, including firefox profiles, thunderbird's stuff, many games, and so on.

But, if you are backing up the ENTIRE user\X\ folder, you should be ok, provded it copies the stuff like that one. It mayt throw errors though, windows uses appdata\local and locallow as do some programs that may be active. And others may use roaming too as a 'scratchpad save'. Seen it happen, mostly cause the temp folder for program use is in your user folder...

Thanks for all the advice. I'll just backup the entire user folder. But when I'm "copy and pasting ;) " it back after the install, I'll skip appdata/local. I don't care about me game saves. Only about SRTT because of the characters. I don't use firefox, Google chrome rocks. And I've always had and always will have hidden files enabled.

Well I also mention he would need to look up where his save games are.;) I personally look at a format as an excuse to re-beat all my games :P

I was just saying that nothing in that folder is really "omg my world is over and I cant use my PC anymore:eek: " important, all settings and information that can honestly be replaced. Yes it can be annoying to redo some settings, and in relation to game saves it could be quite disheartening:( or even enraging:mad: but in all seriousness not "needed" but depending on you're issues some of the files stored in that area could be corrupted. I guess since I'm so used to the general Personal PC Repair and Troubleshooting I've grown accustomed to the quick "aslong as you save my family reunion pictures, my illegally downloaded music, home movies, and all my important documents and personal information (that I probably shouldnt have saved in a word doc.) documents I don't care what you do. " customer requests when they bring their PC in or when I go to them. :p

Plus, this is Sweetness were talking about here..... :D

I don't think one thing on my computer that is "FUCK THE WORLD IS OVER" important. I'm going to bite the bullet and restore without backup. I will do my songs though. I know what it's like to lose an important file. I lost the best of the few pictures that I actually have of my passed mother when I accidentally deleted it.
