Why I hate the Saints row fanbase, Part II. (rant)

The more I think about it, the more I'm slowly getting OK with the plotline of 'student loan debt'. I mean, we know America has a huge student loan debt crisis right now that the government just ignores. People fresh out of college are crippled by debt when they haven't even started a job yet.

Maybe the logic with this squad is, 'well, it's gonna take us an eternity and a half to pay off the debts via legal means so....what if we did it via the criminal underbelly?' I mean, we've had examples throughout history of people doing illegal things just to survive so this is no different. Maybe this is a soft critique of just how abysmal America fails its youth, but unlike GTA who beats it over our heads like we're stupid, Saints Row implies it?

Is it as gritty as SR1/SR2? Is it like Red Dead Redemption II? No. Why? Because these are youngsters literally building a gang from scratch. They're not joining a well-established gang, or fully grown adults with decades of gang experience.
I was truly worried about loan debt plot,
But now you have eased my mind & over hyped me for this game, so, thanks🙏

I'm cautiously looking forward to it.

I feel like a large portion of the blame for those stuck in negative mindsets, falls on that CGI trailer not showcasing gameplay; and putting the new gang in a weird light.

That 7 minute video they released on Friday is a dramatically different tone than the Gamescom trailer. I wish they had released it first, because I know it would have won over more hearts & minds than how things are going right now.

With the phrase contemporary story thrown out there, I don't think we'll get the tone, toilet humor or grim mockery of social decay that SR2 and 3 did so well; but at least we'll have familiar gameplay.

Also, if Volition really wanted to piss those people off, they'd add a voice option that just whines about the franchise and complains over all the gameplay, in place of normal dialogue. lol

I'd totally do it for free. 😂

No probs.

Yeah, I just asked myself, 'what would make an otherwise intelligent college-level kid resort to crime?' The answer: survival. If both Eli and Neenah are in crippling debt before they can even go out and start lives of their own, I can see how they might be desperate. Especially with the draconian ways corporation screws over people just trying to earn a decent living (re: shit minimum wage, inflation, higher rent pay, etc.) Not to mention how stupidly hard it is to find a job these days, what with most jobs requiring you to have experience from the get-go like you've done that sort of thing before.

There are loads of reasons why someone might resort to crime. "Put food on the table" is just a fancy way of saying "survival". The most basic instinct shared by every living organism on the planet from humans down to the smallest microbe on Eli's glasses. If that is threatened, the organism will fight with everything it's got, with whatever means at its disposal. In this case, it's Eli and Friends forming a gang.

running away from the game talking, but addressing a real life issue: this is why life in the city sucks tho.
but if you try to disconnect yourself and your family like the weavers did, you'd probably get Ruby Ridge'd or Waco'd

Returning.
But the idea of paying college debt loan stills not fitting for a SR game. Vigilantism does, you know the kind that screamed "kill your local drug dealer" like the one present in the first part of the 1st SR game. Then "why be vigilantes if we can take over the city?" kicks in.

Okay, let's put it in another perspective. I'm not Russian. I've never been to Russia. I've never met a Russian. I've only ever seen Russians in movies and TV shows, and the only thing I know about Russia is what I've been given to read or watch. Now, if I make a movie, and I want to put Russians in my movie, I run a risk of not portraying them accurately. I run a risk that real Russians may look at it and have a problem with it. When I was young, I wouldn't have cared. I didn't care! But now I'm older, I do.

Maybe the devs are concerned that they don't actually know enough about street gangs and about the kinds of things that drive people to join street gangs, and are worried about creating in their work stereotypes that they're going to be ashamed of later.

I don't like it because they sold out to the woke agenda. That trailer is basically LGBSTQ+ vs Big Bad White Guy.
Have we forgotten Dane of Ultor? In Saints Row 2, one of the final bosses is Dane, a white corporate dude. Indeed, in some of the promos (if I recall correctly) we actually see the default boss (a black guy, mind) shooting Dane through a window. Oh, and two of their chief second-in-commands are Asian and black respectively.

They could also walk around wearing a bra and speaking with a female voice. Even wear women’s clothing. And makeup, presumably. And none of the Saints would’ve cared.

In Saints Row IV, the Boss can literally have hot romance sessions with members of their own gender. Did I mention you could literally swap between genders like no one’s business and literally no one would blink an eye?

The series has always been ‘woke’.

I’m of the same mindset here, but as a budding writer, my thought would be that they could research, get people who actually are part of gangs to check over the script to see how legit it is. That’s what Rockstar did when scripting Grand Theft Auto V when writing Franklin’s part of the game.
